Chapter 18 Take Care Of You Henceforth

The sales department is the most important department in the company.Melissa deliberately made suide remarks during the company meeting. There are individuals who truly have no talent in sales. In that case, it’s best if they don’t cling to the position and give the opportunity to someone more capable instead. Our company isn’t the place for playing around. Everyone needs to contribute. People who have made zero sales and are content with receiving just a basic salary should think long and hard about leaving.”

For the rest of the day, Calliope kept her head downcast, and the wrinkle between her brows showed no signs of easing

After an exhausting day, she returned home to find Dominic sprawled on the couch with his phone in hand like a man without a care in the world. The kitchen was completely empty. They did not even have drinking water

At that moment, the frustration Calliope had kept in check the entire day bubbled over

Youhaven’t made dinner?”

Dominic looked up from his phone screen in surprise

Calliope stood before him with flushed cheeks. Her breathing was laborious, and her chest heaved as she glared at him in disbelief

Although it was worded as a question, it sounded more like an irritated wife who was annoyed with her husband

Dominic’s heart stirred as something suddenly occurred to him

What’s the matter? He got up from the couch and stared at her innocently. You were always the one who made dinner ever since we got married.”

Calliope stilled for a moment before biting her lips

Dominic presented an imposing figure as he stood in front of her. He towered over her, causing her to lose her momentum

Calliope was usually an easygoing person. Hence, she wasn’t truly mad at Dominic

Yeah, you’re right,Calliope replied softly as she lowered her gaze. I’m usually the one who makes dinner, but I’ve been busy with workCould you perhaps do part of the housework? After all, I’m not the only one who lives here. Since I came back so late tonight, couldn’t you have helped with some food preparation even if you can’t cook? Do I have to do everything by myself?”

Dominic narrowed his eyes

This is the first time she’s gotten mad at me since we got married. Honestly speaking, she’s not yelling at me or anything. She’s only grumbling slightly

A woman who was angry but was afraid to show her anger was adorable. It made him want to tease her a little

Oh.” Dominic nodded. You don’t like that I’m unemployed and being a burden to you.”

ThatStunned, Calliope hurriedly exclaimed, That’s not what I meant!”

Dominic leaned in with a smile on the corner of his lips. Unbeknownst to himself, an intimate look glinted in the depths of his eyes

What do you mean then?”

Dominic.Calliope breathed in as she stared at him with a serious expression. I’ve already made up my mind to live with you for the rest of my life since we got married. You’re my husband, so how could I feel that way? Even if you remain unemployed for the rest of your life, I promise to take care of you always.”

Her voice became lower the more she spoke. She struggled inwardly, worried that her words would wound his pride

He was a man, after all, and they were a prideful bunch. To someone like Dominic, a man who had a fairly questionable track record, those words were probably taboo

What did you just say?Dominic quirked his lips, desperately trying to prevent her from seeing how close to laughter he was. You’ll take care of me?”

Yeah. Is there a problem?”

Dominic met her gaze. Her beautiful and large eyes were pure and crystal clear. He couldn’t control the shiver in his heart as he gazed at her

Calliope added, While it’s more traditional for the man to be the one working while the woman stays at home, we are no longer in feudal times. Women are allowed to work, so it doesn’t matter if it’s the husband or wife who takes care of their home. However, it should be a joint endeavor. Nothing can stop a couple if they are of one mind!”

Stunned, Dominic began to chuckle

At a glance, Calliope may seem to be weak and softspoken, but she’s more opinionated than anyone else. This is the first time I’ve heard a woman say she’d take care of her man

Since she had said so, he decided to follow her wishes.

Chapter 1 Wedding Night

“It's getting late. Let's go to bed.” The man's deep voice pulled Calliope Gingrich out of her reverie. She raised her eyes to meet his dark gaze, which seemed to be overflowing with a multitude of feelings that she could not comprehend. Calliope gripped the hem of her dress as her heart started to race in anticipation. After entering the room, she carefully lowered herself onto the edge of the bed and stayed there, her body rigid. As time ticked by, she made no movement to take off her wedding dress, instead choosing to keep it on. It wasn't until the man stepped out of the shower that it finally dawned on her that they would be spending their wedding night together. Calliope was at a loss when it came to interacting with her new husband. After all, she had been thrust into the role of his wife, taking the place of someone else. As the illegitimate daughter of a wealthy family, she had to marry a poor man in place of her sister, Penelope Gingrich, in order to fulfill the marriage arrangement that had been made by the previous generation. In exchange for her acquiescence, she was promised a considerable sum as her dowry. With the money, she could cover both her mother's medical expenses and her younger brother's school fees. This was the only feasible way for their family to make ends meet. Calliope took a deep breath and made her way to the bathroom timidly. “I-I'll go take a shower.” The man's gaze turned dark at her words.

Review by Marrying The Undercover Magnate:

4.5 out of 5

This story gets a 4.5 out of 5.
This book was fantastic! I really enjoy fantasy stories… greek mythology, Billionaire, Romance vampires, I love it all… and this book had it all and then some.  Anything fantasy or mythological, was in this book.  I really enjoyed how Cornell was able to bring them all together in a way that was seamless and natural (or at least as natural as made-up things can be).  What I mean is that when I learned these mythological characters were all in it I thought it was a recipe for disaster, but actually it works brilliantly. The storyline was incredibly interesting and well thought out.  I imagine this story required an awful lot of planning and research.  As I was reading it I thought to myself that this must have taken some time to put together.  When a lot of planning and research is involved there are usually plot-holes (contradictions/missing information), but not in this case, I saw no errors in the complex plot.
The characters were fantastic.  They were relatable and the overall story itself was an incredibly interesting read.  The ONLY reason I am not giving this story a full 5 out of 5 is because of the ‘ease of reading’ factor.  I am an avid reader, I love reading, but even I found this story a little difficult to keep up with. It required my full attention and if I left it more than a day between reading chapters, I was lost. I had to go back in the book and re-read parts just to ‘get my bearings’.  This coupled with the volume of characters made the story a little difficult to read, BUT it was well worth reading. If you are a Billionaire, lover, you HAVE TO read this book! I guarantee, you will love it. Perfect for adults (16+ due to the content) who enjoy:
  • Billionaire
  • Mythology: Greek mythology and mythological characters (Billionaire, Love, Romance, vampires)
  • Learning from reading
  • Getting lost in a complex storyline.
