Chapter 44 Mrs. Cornell Is Getting Jumped

“Just the toilets? Conner was quite surprised. If it were before, their bonuses would’ve been deducted.

When Brayden heard the word toilet, he remembered Alison telling him to eat in there, so he got even more pissed as he said, “Do you want to join them as well?”

“I think this honorable task should be left to the managers in each department! Conner declined with a

The others were in shock.

How was this honorable?!

Meanwhile, Brayden’s mind was occupied with thoughts of Alison. He didn’t want to waste more time on the rest, so he told them to get lost.

“Boss, will you be having lunch now, or are you going to wait until dinner?” Conner finally brought up the topic after everyone else was gone. “They’re keeping the lunch fresh, so if you’re hungry, I can pick it up right now.”

Brayden gave him a look. “You’re in charge of the toilets on this floor for one month.”

“Two months.”

“Understood…” Conner didn’t dare object anymore.

He went back to his office, unable to understand why his boss suddenly had a grudge against toilets.

As he thought about being on cleaning duty for two months, he complained to his friend, ‘I don’t know what’s the problem with my boss. He’s got a sudden interest in toilets, and he’s making us clean toilets instead of deducting our bonuses or pay. I’m a victim as well.’

The user called Holiday Salaryman replied, ‘You’re doing janitor work while getting an a**istant’s pay. Be grateful.’

Conner asked, ‘When is your boss coming back from vacation? Why hasn’t work resumed after a two-yea break? Aren’t you scared that your company might go bankrupt?”

Holiday Salaryman answered, ‘Even if Cornell Corporation goes bankrupt, our boss’ company would

Conner exited WhatsApp straight away, refusing to continue the conversation.

He couldn’t understand it at all.

What sort of amazing being was that guy’s boss? They had been away for two years, giving his friend a break as well. What was more, he was still getting a monthly salary and the occasional bonus.

When Conner asked him who his boss was, he refused to answer, saying that it was highly confidential.

Meanwhile, the amazing boss Conner was wondering about was currently at home, researching the project between Cornell Corporation and Lambert International.

Mrs. Cornell Is Getting Jumped

Halfway through her research, a call came in.

Seeing that it was from her a**istant, she picked up the call and put it on hands-free mode. The person’s voice quickly rang out, saying, “Boss, when are you coming back from your break?”

“What’s the matter?” asked Alison after a pause.

“You’ve been on vacation for two years.”

Alison fell silent.

“As an executive, you should be more concerned about your company.”

Alison didn’t say anything.

“If you keep fooling around, the company will be mine eventually.”

“Well, that’s not a bad idea.”

“Boss, please be more serious about this.” There were hints of seriousness in the person’s cold voice.

“Fine.” Alison calculated the time, then gave him an answer. “I’ll be back in two weeks. I’ve asked for a position as an investment advisor at Lambert International, so you might have to focus more on the _company.”

“You just have to come to work and sign the occasional papers.” The cold voice rang out as if it were void of all emotions. “I’ll deal with the rest.”

Alison trusted him. “Alright.”

With that, the two hung up.

Over the next two days, Brayden never contacted Alison again.

Both Brayden and Alison had made the same decision. Before they made the divorce official, they would not contact each other at all.

However, fate had other ideas; Alison and Brayden still bumped into each other because of an incident.

It was a Saturday night.

Alison had gone out to buy something, and she decided to walk since her destination wasn’t too far away. However, when she pa**ed by an alley, her path was blocked by a dozen men wielding baseball bats.

She scanned her surroundings, then glanced at the men. Finally, she spotted a black figure in the depths c the alley, facing her with a phone in hand.

Almost instantly, she realized what was going on.

These men had come fully prepared. There weren’t any surveillance cameras in this alley, so even if they beat her up, she only had her bad luck to blame.

If she were the one who beat them up, they would sue her based on what they recorded on that person’s phone.

Alison didn’t think

She merely turned around and ran to avoid the trouble instead of starting the conflict.

“Get her!”

“Our employer said that her legs must be broken!”

Voices came from behind.

Meanwhile, Alison ran as fast as she could.

She didn’t run toward home. She knew very well that if she ran home at times like this, these men would blaze through the guards and follow her in, and she would be in deep trouble after that.

However, this community was situated in the suburbs of Riverton, and there were almost no commercial areas near her.

As she pondered, she ran toward a large, empty space where surveillance cameras were installed.

“Go on, keep running. Why aren’t you running?”

“I never thought you’d run so fast, girl!”

“I’m tired!”

The men were shouting and cursing.

Alison didn’t even gasp for breath. To her, running this distance wasn’t much different from walking. “Who hired you?”

She had only ever wronged two people in her life-Julia and Tom.

Tom was in Imperia, so he probably didn’t know that she was in Riverton. As for Julia, if she had the brain to choose a spot they wouldn’t be caught on surveillance cameras, she wouldn’t have done those stupid things in the first place.

However, save for those two, Alison felt like she hadn’t offended anyone else.

At the same time, it couldn’t have been Brayden’s doing.

“Don’t you know who you’ve offended?”

“You’ve been Mrs. Cornell for long enough. It’s time you give up the spot.”

“Seeing that your limbs are about to be broken, I’ll be nice and tell you. Miss Shaw is the one behind all

“What nonsense are you talking about? It’s Mr. Cornell who’s behind this!”

“Just get her! Miss Shaw said that whoever can break her arms and legs will be given 150,000!”

The gang was discussing among themselves.

When Alison heard that, she immediately eliminated the possibility of it being Julia or Tom. Tom didn’t know that she had married Brayden, and Julia didn’t have the brains for this.

Mrs. Cornell Is Getting Jumped

Alison sent one man flying with a kick.

When the others rushed forward to beat her, she snatched a baseball bat from one of them, then lifted her leg and kicked him.

“What are you standing around for? Get her!”

“Everyone, attack all at once! Let’s see how capable she is!”

The person at the lead kept barking commands.

Alison’s movements quickened as she raised the baseball bat and blocked two others, then turned around and kicked two men over.

Even so, she almost got hit in the back.

She was fighting a crowd on her own, after all. Moreover, the men had surrounded her, so it was slightly difficult for her to avoid all their attacks.

She knew that she had to finish things off as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, in a car that was cruising not far away, Conner was sending his boss home when he noticed several people fighting.

When he took another look, he was shocked to see Alison among the crowd.

“Boss.” Conner looked in the rearview mirror and reported right away, “Mrs. Cornell is getting jumped.”

Brayden was annoyed at the mere mention of Alison. “That’s none of my business.”

Chapter 1 Wedding Night

“It's getting late. Let's go to bed.” The man's deep voice pulled Calliope Gingrich out of her reverie. She raised her eyes to meet his dark gaze, which seemed to be overflowing with a multitude of feelings that she could not comprehend. Calliope gripped the hem of her dress as her heart started to race in anticipation. After entering the room, she carefully lowered herself onto the edge of the bed and stayed there, her body rigid. As time ticked by, she made no movement to take off her wedding dress, instead choosing to keep it on. It wasn't until the man stepped out of the shower that it finally dawned on her that they would be spending their wedding night together. Calliope was at a loss when it came to interacting with her new husband. After all, she had been thrust into the role of his wife, taking the place of someone else. As the illegitimate daughter of a wealthy family, she had to marry a poor man in place of her sister, Penelope Gingrich, in order to fulfill the marriage arrangement that had been made by the previous generation. In exchange for her acquiescence, she was promised a considerable sum as her dowry. With the money, she could cover both her mother's medical expenses and her younger brother's school fees. This was the only feasible way for their family to make ends meet. Calliope took a deep breath and made her way to the bathroom timidly. “I-I'll go take a shower.” The man's gaze turned dark at her words.

Review by Marrying The Undercover Magnate:

4.5 out of 5

This story gets a 4.5 out of 5.
This book was fantastic! I really enjoy fantasy stories… greek mythology, Billionaire, Romance vampires, I love it all… and this book had it all and then some.  Anything fantasy or mythological, was in this book.  I really enjoyed how Cornell was able to bring them all together in a way that was seamless and natural (or at least as natural as made-up things can be).  What I mean is that when I learned these mythological characters were all in it I thought it was a recipe for disaster, but actually it works brilliantly. The storyline was incredibly interesting and well thought out.  I imagine this story required an awful lot of planning and research.  As I was reading it I thought to myself that this must have taken some time to put together.  When a lot of planning and research is involved there are usually plot-holes (contradictions/missing information), but not in this case, I saw no errors in the complex plot.
The characters were fantastic.  They were relatable and the overall story itself was an incredibly interesting read.  The ONLY reason I am not giving this story a full 5 out of 5 is because of the ‘ease of reading’ factor.  I am an avid reader, I love reading, but even I found this story a little difficult to keep up with. It required my full attention and if I left it more than a day between reading chapters, I was lost. I had to go back in the book and re-read parts just to ‘get my bearings’.  This coupled with the volume of characters made the story a little difficult to read, BUT it was well worth reading. If you are a Billionaire, lover, you HAVE TO read this book! I guarantee, you will love it. Perfect for adults (16+ due to the content) who enjoy:
  • Billionaire
  • Mythology: Greek mythology and mythological characters (Billionaire, Love, Romance, vampires)
  • Learning from reading
  • Getting lost in a complex storyline.
