Chapter 38 Secret Recipe
Dominic finally understood her intentions. Since they’re older than sixteen years old, they’re old enough to be held legally responsible for the crime they committed. So, she can hand the video of them bullying Caleb as evidence to the police and sue them. If she does, their wrongdoing will follow them for the rest of their
lives.
As Calliope swept her icy gaze past the bullies, she uttered one word at a time. “I bet Caleb’s not your only victim. Once the police arrive, they’ll arrest you all and investigate this matter thoroughly.”
Everything happened just as she expected.
The bullies were soon taken away by the police and were interrogated before they confessed to their bullying. After they were charged with a**ault, they were given a sentence befitting their
crime.
With that, Calliope successfully delivered justice for Caleb.
“Your wife is amazing, Silv.” Cyrus had friends at the police station, so after hearing about the news, he couldn’t help feeling impressed. “I can tell she’s a lot calmer when dealing with matters compared to you. Not only that, she seems to understand the law well. This is the best way to handle the situation.”
Dominic grinned. She has been surprising me again and again ever since we got married. While I’m not credited with this achievement, I still contributed by beating those bullies up. Based on what I know about her, I bet she’ll reward me with a fancy meal later.
To his disappointment, Calliope didn’t do anything to reward his hard work.
Instead, she was clearly giving him the cold shoulder in the following days.
She had also stopped mentioning the topic of letting him sleep in the room.
Dominic was certain she was smart enough to understand the hints he had been dropping, but she just pretended not to notice them and came up with a bunch of excuses to brush him off.
Hence, he was still forced to sleep on the couch.
Sighing, he furrowed his eyebrows and was so deep in thought that he didn’t notice his cigarette was about to burn his hand.
“Hey, Silv!” Swiftly, Jonathan snatched the cigarette away.
Only then did Dominic return to his senses.
This is the first time I’ve seen him in such a daze. Jonathan waved his hand before his friend, asking, “What are you thinking about, Silv? By the way, there’s news from Yeringham. Apparently, your second uncle brought up the topic of picking a wife for you with your grandfather.”
The look in Dominic’s eyes turned grim as he pressed the cigarette butt into the ashtray.
Cyrus said worriedly, “In any case, none of your family members are easy to deal with. If you return one day, Calliope-”
“She won’t come with me,” Dominic muttered. “After all, we’re from two different worlds.”
Upon hearing that, Jonathan and Cyrus exchanged a knowing glance. Even an idiot can tell he likes her. Yet, he keeps saying stuff like, “I’m just using our marriage to hide” or “I’m only caring for her to fulfill my responsibility as a husband.” He can tell himself that kind of crap all he wants, but it’s undeniable that he loves her. When the day for him to leave her comes, it’s hard to say if he’ll be able to handle the heartbreak that follows.
Silence filled the air before Dominic abruptly asked, “Do you two know any gynecologists?”
They widened their eyes at him as though they had just seen a ghost.
“W-What?” Jonathan wanted to laugh but didn’t have the guts to as he studied Dominic. “You’re amazing, Silv! I didn’t expect you’d get Calliope pregnant this quickly.”
In response, Dominic rolled his eyes.
“Can you at least listen to what Silv has to say first?” Cyrus knitted his eyebrows.
After clearing his throat, Dominic uttered, “I just want to know what is needed to keep her healthy.”
Unable to hold back his laughter any longer, Jonathan spat out his wine and cackled out loud. Meanwhile, Cyrus glared at Jonathan as though he was looking at an idiot.
Dominic’s scowl intensified. Lately, a bundle of different emotions would surface in her gaze whenever she looks at me. Sometimes there’s doubt, and sometimes there’s loneliness. In fact, she seems very insecure. I can’t figure out what I said wrong or what made her misunderstand me. However, when I saw the sanitary pads in the bathroom during the morning, I was reminded of something. I remember that it’s normal for a woman to get moody during her period. It was the only thing that made sense to me, that she had been treating me coldly due to her period. Then, when I saw how much pain she was in, especially when she was sweating while curling up on the bed with a pale face, I really wanted to help her feel better.
He then added nonchalantly, “If you two don’t know any gynecologist, I’ll just ask around for
one.”
Resting his hand on Dominic’s shoulder, Jonathan patted himself on the chest and chuckled. “You don’t need to look for anyone, Silv. I’m an expert!”
He then lowered his voice and continued, “I have a secret recipe, you see. Once she ingests the substance, I guarantee you that she’ll be like a wolf in… Ah, I mean, she’ll be as healthy as a horsel
