Chapter 33 Worse
Subsequently, Calliope led Mickey into the conference room.
Those gathered in front of Melissa’s office gloated after watching how the scene unfolded.
“Ms. Muller just wanted Mr. Morales to tell everyone the gem on Calliope’s ring is green gla**! However, it turns out the emerald on Calliope’s ring is genuine! Not only that, but it seems like Calliope also got herself another client! D*mn. Ms. Muller lost her gamble badly,” someone uttered with a snicker.
“Hoisted by her own petard, I’d say!”
“Haha…”
Melissa froze on the spot. Her mind went blank, and her body trembled in fury.
Moments later, she slammed the door shut with a loud bang.
As the employees dispersed and returned to their desks, laughter still echoed in the office space. After all, everyone hated her arrogance, but they couldn’t voice their complaints because her uncle was a significant shareholder in the company.
Thus, they felt great when they saw how badly she was dunked on.
After Calliope walked Mickey to the building’s exit and bade him goodbye, she gently touched the ring on her finger.
I still can’t believe this is a genuine emerald… As she beamed, two lovely dimples appeared on her cheeks. Now that I think about it, my luck has improved since I married Dominic. My career has been going smoothly, and whenever I’m in a crisis, he’ll bail me out each time. In the past, a fortune teller told me that I’ll bring good luck to my husband. I think it’s the other way around. Dominic is the one who brings his wife good luck! Well, it’s almost time to get off work. I think I should make some meatballs for him after I return home.
As soon as she heaved a sigh of relief and turned around, she met Melissa’s reddened eyes.
“Ms. Muller,” greeted Calliope nonchalantly.
Just as she was about to head upstairs, she heard Melissa’s aggressive, taunting voice. “Emerald, my foot! I bet the ring was stolen from somewhere.”
Upon hearing that, Calliope stopped and turned around to face her. “What did you say?”
“He went to prison before, so I bet he’s unscrupulous enough to commit all kinds of crimes! What a shameless, outrageous woman you are, Calliope! You and your husband sure are a match made in hell, considering both of you are thieves!”
Calliope’s face paled as she bit her lip.
Sneering, Melissa intentionally glanced up at the surveillance camera recording the scene.
In reality, she was quite an intelligent woman. She would always provoke Calliope at a spot with surveillance cameras. That way, no matter how awful the things she said were, Calliope would refrain from a**aulting her.
If Calliope lost her rationality and attacked her, she could use that as an excuse to kick Calliope out of the company.
Staring at Calliope’s ring, Melissa insulted, “You know, it’s okay to be poor. However, stealing is off-limits! You’re a good woman, so why marry a man like your husband? Ah, I know. Men who were imprisoned for so long have intense sexual desires, huh? I bet he’s really good at satisfying you in bed.”
That’s it. I’m not going to swallow my anger anymore. Upon taking in a deep breath, she turned to Melissa. “Can we have a nice talk?”
When Melissa saw how submissive Calliope was behaving, some of her anger faded. Is she giving in? At least she still has some self-awareness.
“I won’t steal Mr. Morales’ deal from you. In fact, after I finish handling his matter, I’ll let credit for it. What do you say?”

“Hmph! At least you’re tactful.”
“In that case, can we continue our conversation in another place? There are too many people pa**ing by here. I don’t want them to overhear what I have to say.”
In response, Melissa agreed and followed Calliope to the secluded, empty spot behind the building.
Calliope surveyed her surrounding. I don’t think anyone will pa** by the small forest around us right now, and the trees conceal our presence well. Most importantly, there aren’t any surveillance cameras here. This is a good spot for a “talk.”
Still acting high and mighty, Melissa exclaimed, “What do you want to talk about? Just spit it out! I’m planning to get off work early!”
Calliope lowered her head in silence, which unnerved Melissa a little. Just as the latter was going to speak again, she received a slap to the face. Her cheek instantly seared with pain.
Melissa was startled, but before she could react, Calliope mustered all her strength and gave her another tight slap, causing her to stumble backward before falling to the ground.
“W-What are you doing?” Fearfully, she stared at Calliope as she cradled her cheeks.
Calliope glared at Melissa coldly. At that moment, she was unlike her usual gentle self. Instead, she was exuding an aggressive and oppressive aura.
She then lifted Melissa by the collar and raised her hand, preparing to land a third slap on the
latter’s cheek. Melissa screamed, closed her eyes reflexively, and protected her head with her
arms.
As Calliope’s hand hung in the air, she spat, “The first slap is for humiliating me! The second is for insulting my husband! The third…”
“If you slap me again, Calliope, I’m going to-” Before Melissa could end her sentence, Calliope gave her a third slap.
“The third slap is a warning to you!” Calliope uttered one word at a time. “If you mock my husband again, you’ll have it a lot worse than this! Don’t believe for a second that I won’t retaliate! This time, I spared you from the embarra**ment of getting hit in public. However, if you run your mouth again, I’ll make sure everyone will see how your face swells! I don’t mind if I’m fired or if you tell everyone that I slapped you. Since I was the one who did it, I’m not afraid of taking responsibility for it. So, if you force my hand, you’ll only have yourself to blame!”
