Chapter 30 No Ring
Calliope froze and stared at her in puzzlement.
Amala sighed and whispered in her car. “To be honest with you, everyone in the company is saying that you’re already married, and your husband is a thug who was once in prison. They even said your husband was the one who beat Jonah up. Everything was described in such detail. According to them, your husband is involved in fights and brawls almost every day and frequents. the police station. They also say he had been in prison for many years and was only released recently,”
Calliope was so nonplussed and amused by the rumors that she didn’t know how to respond.
Seeing how she was remaining silent. Amala got even more surprised. “Are you really married. Cally? Is your husband really someone like that?”
“Yes, I am married, and it’s true that my husband’s background isn’t all that honorable,” Calliope answered truthfully.
Amala took a few steps backward and looked at her colleague in utter disbelief.
“But he treats me really well.” Calliope’s voice was soft, but every single word of hers was laced with solemnness.
“I wasn’t trying to hide the fact that I was married. There isn’t a need to either. It’s just that none of you asked me about it. Besides, there isn’t a rule in the company that stated they wouldn’t hire married people, is there?” she added.
Amala frowned. “Well, that’s true. But…”
“In any case, my husband is a really good person. He may have been imprisoned because of fighting in the past, but he has never done anything like that again after marrying me. The past already in the past. What we need to do now
What we need to do now is to spend the rest of our lives together.”
Amala stared at her with a smile. I wouldn’t be as courageous as Calliope if I were in the same situation.
“To be honest, I admire you a lot.” She took Calliope’s hand and suddenly noticed there was nothing on her finger.
“Why aren’t you wearing a ring since you’re already married? Of course, people would misunderstand if you don’t have a ring on your finger!”
Calliope was momentarily stunned as she looked down at her hand. Everything was rushed when she got married to Dominic, and she didn’t have any extra money to get matching rings either. Besides, there wasn’t even a ceremony to exchange rings. They had gotten married perfunctorily. and she couldn’t care less about the rings.
Actually, I think there’s a ring in the wooden box Dominic gave me.
is
She was still deep in thought when a voice rang out. “Her husband wasted half his life in prison. How would he have the money to buy her a ring?”
Calliope turned around in an instant and saw that Melissa was walking toward them with a few people behind her. The frosty look in her eyes gave off the impression that she wanted to skin Calliope alive.
“Hey, the few of you should learn from Calliope Her husband fought and went to prison. He even smokes and drinks. Yet, he’s still a good man in her eyes! Haha…”
“That’s right! I heard that her husband doesn’t even have an actual job. He’s always using up her money,” someone chimed in.
“It’s no wonder why Calliope is always so hardworking. She’d climb into any man’s bed as long as she can clinch a deal.”
Melissa gritted her teeth.
Initially, she was shocked to hear that Jonah had been beaten up by Calliope’s husband, but she soon became livid. She knew that if Jonah hadn’t done something out of line, he wouldn’t have ended up being beaten.
At the end of the day, that jerk had lied to her.
Jonah appeared to be a gentle and docile man on the surface, complying with every single one of her wishes, but he was actually disloyal and greedy. It turned out that he was still swooning over Calliope.
Nonetheless, Melissa could only bear with it. She still had to protect Jonah on the surface, but secretly, she would do anything to screw Calliope over.
Melissa mocked, “Say, Calliope, have you been working so hard recently because you’re trying to save up for a diamond ring? You can ask other men to gift you one if your husband can’t afford it. Men are suckers for someone like you anyway. It doesn’t take you much effort to clinch deals since all you need to do is sleep with your clients.”
“Melissa Muller!”
Calliope’s furious roar silenced everyone who was teasing and laughing earlier.
They stared at her silently. She had a murderous look on her face, and the surrounding temperature had dropped drastically.
They had never seen such a fierce look on the usually kind and gentle Calliope.
As the few of them exchanged glances, a sinister smile tugged at Melissa’s lips. She raised her chin and asked, “What do you want?”
Calliope was trembling from head to toe out of fury, and her fists were tightly clenched.
She kept reasoning with herself, telling herself that they were currently in the company and that she shouldn’t start anything with all the surveillance cameras around.
Melissa only said that to agitate me. I’d only fall into her trap if I hit her.
Taking a few deep breaths, Calliope glared at the woman and said through gritted teeth. “Melissa, as a departmental head, please watch what you say and do. And as Mr. Frazer’s girlfriend, please keep your man under control! My husband said he would cripple him if he dares to harass me again.”
“What? Are you threatening me?”
“No, I wasn’t. I just feel lucky to have a husband who will do just about anything to protect me. Unlike a certain someone who seems sanctimonious on the surface but only dates his girlfriend. for the sake of getting his hands on his girlfriends’ uncle’s shares.”
“You…”
In fact, Melissa was somewhat aware of Jonah’s true purpose for dating her. However, being exposed by Calliope in front of so many people hit her sore spot.
