Chapter 7

“Turn around.” In the darkness, the voice ordered.

Kara’s legs felt stiff, and she couldn’t move. She desperately told herself that he wasn’t talking to her.

“I’m saying it again. Turn around, ugly woman.”

Kara’s heart seemed to be tightly pinched by a hand. She couldn’t breathe, and her face was pale as paper.

The voice became impatient, “Didn’t you hear it?”

She wanted to escape without looking back!

But she knew that in Shepard’s hands, no one could escape. The lessons of these three years had made her deeply aware of this.

Kara took a deep breath and turned around slowly.

Her teeth chattered slightly, and she clenched her fists tightly, forcing herself to look up at that nightmare-like face.

The dim light shone on Shepard. His face was hidden in the dark, and his whole body exuded a sense of radiance and dignity that could not be ignored.

He crossed his legs and looked at her lazily with sharp eyes.

After only one glance, Kara quickly lowered her head.

During those countless days and nights, she had been often. awakened by this face. For Kara, this face was the biggest nightmare in her life!

She had never forgotten that she had suffered so much because of him.

She had suffered a lot of humiliation, and every humiliation. was ordered by Mr. Brown.

After three years, she had crawled out of hell covered in blood, but she still ran into this monster!

“Oh, it’s you,” Shepard looked at her with cold eyes, “You’re not dead yet.”

Kara couldn’t help trembling and bit her lower lip tightly so as not to let the sound of her chattering teeth be heard.

Yes, why wasn’t she dead yet?

Sometimes Kara had also asked herself this question. Her life wasn’t as good as a dog’s. Why hadn’t she died?

When she couldn’t hold on, she had told herself not to hold on. She was too tired!

But she couldn’t die. She couldn’t die no matter what, because she still had a debt to pay…

Shepard squinted her eyes, and the box was dim. She seemed to be a different person, without any trace of the girl Kara he had known.

She was too thin, and the overalls felt like a robe on her. Her face was even thinner, and her head was hanging low, and

she didn’t even dare to look up at him. If the waitress hadn’t called her name Kara just now, he wouldn’t have recognized this woman.

Richard saw that the relationship between the two was unusual, and asked hesitantly, “Do you know this ugly woman?”

“I know her. She’s an old acquaintance. How could I not know her?” Shepard crossed his legs and put his hands on the armrests. His posture was lazy and comfortable, but the words he said were extremely cold.

Kara lowered her eyes in silence. She had been in love with him for twenty years, and they had been married for three years. Now she was only an old acquaintance of his. In the past three years, he had become more ruthless and less human.

“When did you come out?” Shepard asked indifferently.

Kara panicked, and her face turned pale. She raised her head suddenly and looked at the man across from her with pleasing eyes…Don’t talk about my imprisonment in front of so many people, please. She was begging him with her eyes!

Shepard raised his eyebrows. He suddenly raised his hand, pointed at the wine bottle on the coffee table, and sneered at Kara, “I know what you want to say. Okay. As long as you can drink all this bottle of wine, I’ll grant your request.”

Kara looked at the bottle of vodka on the coffee table with a pale face. She opened her mouth and wanted to say

The man on the sofa looked like a hunter playing with his prey under his feet. He stared at Kara playfully with black eyes and said, “My patience is limited.”

Hearing that familiar voice, Kara turned even paler. Her physical condition would never allow her to drink alcohol, and even just a sip of alcohol might kill her.

“I… I can’t drink.”

As soon as she told the lie, her heart tightened, and she was getting burnt by his sharp eyes. She quietly clenched her fists… She was like a prisoner waiting to be sentenced, waiting for the final verdict.

“Mr. Brown, please…please let me go.” To live, Kara could abandon her self-esteem and beg for mercy on the floor, “Please let me go. As long as you don’t let me drink, I can do anything.”

There was a fleeting look of surprise on the man’s face hiding under the dim light. He said with a blank face, “It’s just a bottle of wine. Just in order not to drink it, you kneel so easily? Kara, where are your arrogance and dignity?”

There was a hint of mockery and bitterness on Kara’s lowered face.

What was dignity? Could dignity keep her alive?

Kara raised her head, looked at Shepard, shook her head, and said, “Mr. Brown, as long as you don’t let me drink, I can do anything.”

Shepard narrowed his sharp eyes, and smiled, “Anything?”

He spoke with a hint of danger.

Kara, the daughter of the Smith family, the former Ms. Brown, threw away her self-confidence and arrogance.

He wanted to see if the girl Kara he had remembered had turned into another person.

“As long as you don’t let me drink wine, I can do anything.

“Okay!” A look of coldness flashed across Shepard’s face, and he snapped his fingers. With the snap of his fingers, a figure slowly walked out from the dark corner, “Sir.”

It was a man in a black suit with a neatly cropped cut. He bowed respectfully to Shepard. She guessed he was Shepard’s bodyguard.

Kara looked at Shepard in the dim light, puzzled. A bright smile slowly appeared on his perfect face gilded with golden light, “Kiss him.”

Review by author Aurora:

"GoodBye, My Coldhearted Husband" “I read this trying to push myself out of my “Billionaire” comfort zone, I tend to stick to genres I like, billionaire has never been one of those genres. However, I really enjoyed this book, it was exciting, there was a lot of action and drama and it wasn’t as predictable as most billionaire, romance stories. The scenes were hot, but if you’re not a massive fan of smut, they’re not too heavy, so this book is perfect for you. The only reason I’m not giving it 5 stars is because I felt the story could have continued a little longer, the ending felt a little rushed. That might have just been me wanting more. I did guess the ending, but this is the case with most books (I actively try to work out how it’s going to end). Overall a great read, I’m looking forward to reading more from this author.“ Perfect for adults (16+) who enjoy:
  • A short Chapter
  • Romance with a hint of fantasy and action
  • Billionaire

Book Synopsis :

Chapter 1 "Ms. Smith, has your husband been contacted?" Kara didn't know how many times the nurse urged her. Kara looked down at her phone, but Shepard still didn't answer her calls. "Your husband doesn't care about you too much. If it weren't for your good luck, it would have been more than just twenty stitches..." Feeling a piercing pain in her body, Kara stared at the white ceiling in a daze, recalling how it had happened. Bonnie had asked her to go shopping together. On the way back, Bonnie was driving, and she was sitting in the back. Their car hit someone and had an accident. Kara recalled the scene of the car accident with lingering fears. Kara came to her sense, and the mottled blood stains on her body made her face pale as paper. Her voice was a bit hoarse. She was embarrassed but still restrained, "Sorry, he might be busy now. Can I pay the bill myself later?" "It's a big deal. Could it be more important than your life? Well... forget it. You're so pitiful. Give me the bank card, and I'll help you pay the bill. If you need anything, just ring the bell and call me." "Thank you." Kara smiled. It was the first time that she, the daughter of the Smith family and the wife of the Brown Group, had been described as pitiful. The nurse took her bank card and left. She was about to sit up when she heard familiar footsteps from outside the ward. Kara looked out and caught a glimpse of a tall figure. She was instantly overjoyed and called out the name that she had missed a lot, "Shepard!" That was her husband. They had been married for three years. Even though they had rarely seen each other, she was happy with it.
