Chapter 25
Mr. Miller got excited. Regardless of what Kara might think, he immediately agreed and said, “Okay, I’ll listen to you.”
As he spoke, his hairy hand groped Cody’s thigh.
“Look, I’m quite generous.” Mr. Miller took out a stack of banknotes from his black briefcase, estimated to be as much as fifty thousand, “One thousand a song. If you sing ten songs, I will give you 10,000, and 200,000 for 20 songs. If you are able to sing 50 songs, all the money on the table will be yours.”
Fifty songs would take more than three hours to say the least.
“Oh, Mr. Miller, why are you giving her so much?”
“Baby, I will give you more.” He showed what he thought was a charming smile, “Baby, don’t worry. Later I will even give you the most precious essence in myself.”
“Oh, Mr. Miller, you are so naughty.” Cody got off Mr. Miller’s thigh coquettishly and went to the karaoke machine, “Kara, I will do you a favor and order 50 songs.”
As she spoke, her fingers deftly and skillfully tapped one song after another on the karaoke machine.
After it was done, she walked back to Mr. Miller with a smile.
Kara silently picked up the microphone, only to find that every song needed to hit the high notes… Cody was clearly bullying her today.
If her voice hadn’t been damaged, she would have sung very well. But now, there was only this broken voice left. As soon as she began to sing in a hoarse and rough voice, Mr. Miller frowned immediately. Cody handed him earplugs
considerately while she looked at Kara gloatingly.
Kara sang one song after another, but no one was listening. Mr. Miller was holding Cody, watching a movie by himself, while Cody was playing games with her mobile phone.
No one told Kara to stop. After singing many songs, Kara was almost unable to make a sound.
Her legs and feet were terribly sore. She kept singing high- pitched songs with a voice that was almost inaudible even with a microphone.
“Okay, stop it.” Mr. Miller stood up suddenly, pulled out the earplugs, and frowned at Kara, “Take all the money on the table.”
Cody stood up suddenly, “Mr. Miller, she hasn’t finished it yet.”
“Okay, baby, I don’t want to hear such a terrible singing voice. Her voice is hoarse now. It’s getting late. I will be your man tonight.”
Cody was unhappy, but she was not stupid enough to refute her benefactor. Immediately, she shyly lowered her face, and called out delicately, “Mr. Miller, stop it!”
“Don’t call me Mr. Miller. Call me baby. Let’s go to bed.”
After Cody called him baby coquettishly, Mr. Miller took her out of the box.
When passing by Kara, Cody stopped arrogantly, “Your voice is hoarse, and it sounds more pleasant. You should thank me because I let you sing and your voice became more pleasant.”
Kara remained silent. When they walked away, her two legs could no longer support her body… She fell to the floor.
Sitting on the floor, Kara kneaded her knees and muscles for about ten minutes before the pain in her legs and feet eased. Standing up, she stretched out her hand tremblingly, grabbed the money on the table, and walked out.
“Gail, please deposit the money into the bank card.”
“Where did this money come from?” Gail’s eyes sharpened. She obviously didn’t assign tasks to Kara!
“Also, what happened to your throat?”
“It’s okay. It’s just that I hadn’t sung for a long time. Just now, a colleague in the club helped me and asked me to sing for a rich man, so he gave me the money.”
Gail was smart enough to hear that Kara didn’t want to talk much about it. She didn’t say anything. She nodded and took the money from Kara’s hand. Then she handed Kara a glass of warm water, “Drink it.”
Gail watched Kara gulping down the water, and the coldness. in her eyes became more intense… The thirst could not be explained by Kara’s singing.
“Gail…I’m going to have dinner.” Grande Entertainment Club provided a staff meal every night. Kara saw that it was about time, so she said goodbye to Gail and went to have dinner.
After that, she stayed up until she got off work, and returned to the staff dormitory in the Northfolk Community.
Noelle, who lived with her, returned home before her. When Kara entered the house, Noelle stood up suddenly and said, “Kara.”
Kara nodded and walked across the living room to the bedroom.
“Kara… is that true?” Noelle suddenly asked.
Kara looked at Noelle, puzzled.
“Is that true?” Noelle asked, “Kara, everyone is saying that you lied on the floor and begged for money. Tell me, this is a lie, right?” Noelle was a little agitated.
Kara’s heart sank. With a tense body, she swayed slightly. After she stabilized, she glanced at Noelle lightly and said, “It’s true.”
“So what they said is true!” Noelle’s eyes widened in
disbelief, and she exclaimed, “Kara, I didn’t expect you to be such a person. You’re selling yourself for money.”
“Kara, how could you sell yourself for money?! How could you be this kind of person? When I heard them say that about you, I even defended you. But how could you do such a shameless thing?!” Noelle loudly exclaimed, accusing Kara angrily, “I really misjudged you!”
Standing at the door of the bedroom, Kara looked at the college student and smiled calmly after she heard Noelle’s accusations.
