Alison’s Identity of Romance Chapter 2

Alison’s Identity of Romance Chapter 2

Chapter 2 Brayden Is a Jerk

The reason was fairly simple. Before Julia returned, someone had to deal with the elders in Brayden’s family, and since his family adored Alison, she was the best candidate to do that.
Sometimes, she wanted to ask him, Do I look like a fool to you? Why would you a**ume that I would willingly keep your affair a secret from your family?
But now that he proposed the divorce, she felt uneasy.
Despite mentally preparing herself for six months, and despite knowing that he was a jerk, she just couldn’t help feeling emotional.
After sighing a long breath, she sat on the couch and fished out her phone.
Then, she went on WhatsApp and looked for the contact named ‘Whiskers.’ It had been two years since she contacted that person, hence she sent them a text, ‘Check whether Cornell Corporation is going through a crisis now and whether Brayden Cornell is diagnosed with a terminal illness.”
As soon as she sent the message, the other party replied almost instantly.
Whiskers: ‘!!!!’
Whiskers: ‘You’ve been MIA, Miss Lambert!’
Whiskers: ‘Damn! I never expected to receive your message again in my lifetime! Where have you been in the past two years? Why did you go missing for so long?”
Whiskers: ‘Did you know we almost set up a memorial spot for you?’
Alison was speechless at that.
Without further explanation, she replied, ‘Just check for me.’
Whiskers: ‘Alright!’
Then, she left her phone aside.
If Brayden proposed the divorce because he didn’t want to be a burden to her, she could let the past go and even help him, but if he was purely a sc*mbag, she would abandon him without hesitation.
Nearly half an hour later, she finally received a reply.
Whiskers replied, ‘His company is in no crisis. He hasn’t been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and he’s not sick.’
Whiskers: ‘Why do you want this information, Miss Lambert?’
Whiskers: ‘Speaking of which, Brayden Cornwell is handsome and rich. You two would be a good match. Don’t you like handsome guys? Why don’t you give him a try?’
Alison ignored his question and retorted, ‘You look great with a jerk too.’
After sending that message out, she quit her WhatsApp.
Since there was nothing else that could influence his choice, she was pretty much certain that Brayden was merely a sc*mbag!
Whiskers, on the other hand, was dumbfounded at her sudden rebuttal.
Did someone provoke her?
Nobody could answer his question.
Alison glanced at the divorce agreement on the table and paused to sign the document. Then, she tossed it into the cabinet in the room before heading to the bathroom to shower.
After the shower, she noticed 99 new messages and 32 missed calls.
Her eyes blinked.
She didn’t even have to guess to know that it was James Barnett who spread the news about her.
While drying her messy dark locks with a towel, she tapped on her phone to check the newest messages.
Before she could even unlock the phone, a call came in. She saved his contact as ‘*sshole Dad’, and she didn’t particularly feel anything after not contacting that person for two whole years.
After she left Imperia because of her mother, she didn’t contact him ever since, and he didn’t contact her either. And it did not bother either of them.
After a few rounds of hesitation, she picked up the call.
“Hello,” she greeted in an indifferent voice.
As soon as she said that, the other party went silent.
Just as she was running out of patience and was about to hang up, the other party spoke in a hoarse voice. “Aria.”
One simple word was enough to awaken the memories locked deep inside her mind.
Without refuting, she asked calmly, “What’s up?”
“I heard from James that you contacted him.” A middle-aged man’s voice sounded which carried a hint of guilt. “I heard you’re investigating Brayden Cornwall. Can I be of any help?”
“Nope.” Alison didn’t really want him to get involved.
After a pause, Carl Lambert asked, “What’s your relationship with him?”
“We’re husband and wife who are about to divorce.” Alison planted a huge bomb.
Carl was extremely shocked.
A divorce? Aria? Husband and wife?
“Did you—”
“I’ll hang up if nothing else.” Alison didn’t want to share too much with him.
“Wait!” Carl stopped her.
Alison remained silent and allowed the atmosphere to become awkward.
After a while, Carl inquired, “When are you coming back?”
“That person doesn’t stay here.” For fear that she might hang up his call, he quickly added, “No one has touched your mom’s things.”
Emotions rolled in her eyes, but she merely blurted, “Alright.”
After that, she hung up without hesitation.
Carl felt quite aggrieved while clutching his phone.
I haven’t even asked her about her marriage…
On the contrary, Alison didn’t care much about what he thought. She switched on airplane mode as soon as she hung up the call, blew her hair dry, and went to sleep.
It was a great night’s sleep for her.
The next day at 8.00AM, Alison woke up early, had breakfast, and got changed.
She purposely put on light makeup today, which added a tinge of pink to her fair skin. Her lips looked plumper with lipstick on, and the most attractive part of her face was no doubt her almond-shaped eyes.
Her smile was capable of healing all the sickness in the world.
When Brayden arrived, she was already sitting on the couch waiting for him. Her shoulder-length hair was brushed behind her ear, her fringe was brushed upward and topped with a beret.
Upon seeing him, she stood up and grabbed a cardigan before draping it over her shoulders.
She looked much like an elegant daughter from a wealthy family.
“Let’s go.” She was even holding a bag in her arms.
Brayden didn’t move an inch. The tailor-made suit on him offset his slender figure. “We’re not going shopping today.”
Alison was puzzled.
“I have matters to settle.” His baritone voice sounded a little cold, but he couldn’t help sneaking another glance at her. “I’ll go with you tomorrow.”
“Brayden Cornwell,” Alison called out to him.
Brayden never liked it when she called his full name.
“I put on makeup today.” Then, she reminded him, “If you want to get a smooth divorce, then postpone your matters. I don’t like people who don’t keep their promises.”
His gaze turned as sharp.
After weighing his options, he left to make a call. Alison could vaguely hear him mention Julia, the hospital, and a checkup.
Irritated, she clutched her handbag even tighter and cursed him inwardly, What a jerk! Why would you still think about your first love when you’re supposed to be out with me?!
Unfortunately, Brayden did not notice the change in her emotions. He merely found her exceptionally beautiful today. Contrary to her gentle appearance in the past, she looked completely different today and even down to her aura.
After hanging up the call, he asked where she’d like to go shopping. She answered the largest luxury mall in Riverton.
Rather than calling it shopping, it was more appropriate to call it purchasing in bulk.
At 10.00PM, the hands of the four bodyguards who followed them around were full of shopping bags. Alison bought watches, jewelry, bags, clothes, and more.
On the other hand, Brayden received continuous text messages regarding his card being charged.
Watching the woman entering another luxury jewelry store, he pulled a long face. This is not the kind of shopping I imagined. He finally realized that she was just trying to torment him.

Book Synopsis:

Chapter 1 She's Back, So Let's Divorce

At night in Emperor Gardens, Riverton. In the spacious and bright living room, two people sat facing each other. Between them was a divorce agreement. The man wore a well-ironed suit, and he had beautiful features but a cold demeanor. The aura he exuded was so oppressive that the atmosphere around them felt tense. His cold gaze landed on the woman who was silently sitting opposite him, and his orbs were as dark as the night sky outside. "Let's get a divorce on Monday," Brayden Cornell uttered a**ertively in a cold and baritone voice. "Apart from the compensation in the divorce agreement, you can ask for anything else you need from me." "Why so sudden?" Alison Lambert spoke in such a hushed voice he nearly couldn't catch her. "Julia is back," he answered curtly. Of course, she knew who Julia was. After a short moment of silence, she replied, "Sure." Brayden was slightly taken aback as if he didn't expect her to agree to it so willingly. Flipping open the divorce agreement and skimming through the clauses, she was reminded of how she and Brayden met. Two years ago, they met at Nightingale Club. She visited the bar full of worries and bumped into Brayden, who was just dumped by his girlfriend. After taking two shots of drinks, they engaged in a pleasant conversation as if they'd been friends for years. There was no one-night stand, and they returned to their respective homes after enjoying each other's company. She saw him again three days later after that night, and when he brought his a**istant along to propose marriage to her, she agreed readily.
Alison's Identity of Romance

Review by Alison's:

4.5 out of 5

This story gets a 4.5 out of 5.
This book was fantastic! I really enjoy fantasy stories… greek mythology, Billionaire, Romance vampires, I love it all… and this book had it all and then some.  Anything fantasy or mythological, was in this book.  I really enjoyed how Cornell was able to bring them all together in a way that was seamless and natural (or at least as natural as made-up things can be).  What I mean is that when I learned these mythological characters were all in it I thought it was a recipe for disaster, but actually it works brilliantly. The storyline was incredibly interesting and well thought out.  I imagine this story required an awful lot of planning and research.  As I was reading it I thought to myself that this must have taken some time to put together.  When a lot of planning and research is involved there are usually plot-holes (contradictions/missing information), but not in this case, I saw no errors in the complex plot.
The characters were fantastic.  They were relatable and the overall story itself was an incredibly interesting read.  The ONLY reason I am not giving this story a full 5 out of 5 is because of the ‘ease of reading’ factor.  I am an avid reader, I love reading, but even I found this story a little difficult to keep up with. It required my full attention and if I left it more than a day between reading chapters, I was lost. I had to go back in the book and re-read parts just to ‘get my bearings’.  This coupled with the volume of characters made the story a little difficult to read, BUT it was well worth reading. If you are a Billionaire, lover, you HAVE TO read this book! I guarantee, you will love it. Perfect for adults (16+ due to the content) who enjoy:
  • Billionaire
  • Mythology: Greek mythology and mythological characters (Billionaire, Love, Romance, vampires)
  • Learning from reading
  • Getting lost in a complex storyline.
