Chapter 49 I Don’t Buy Your Story
Brayden kept his eyes fixed on Conner’s mouth, wishing he could just sew his lips with a thread and needle. Although he wasn’t sure whether Alison would hide information from him, he was more curious as to why she hid the fact that she was good at hacking from them. After all, he couldn’t accept being kept in the dark since he was her husband.
Seeing the angry look on his boss’ face, Conner decided to do him a favor and asked more about Alison. “Why didn’t you tell us that you’re a hacker, Miss Lambert?”
“Why should I?”
“That’s because it sounds cool.”
Brayden and Alison were speechless when they heard that, but Conner was also able to tell how ridiculous his words might have sounded. Thus, he adjusted his gla**es and added, “I’m just joking. I just thought it would be a waste if no one knew about your talent.”
“Well, I honestly don’t feel that way.” Alison didn’t seem to be concerned about that. When she was younger, she was more belligerent and motivated by vanity. Just like Conner, she also found her set of skills in hacking cool since she could easily access any information she wanted at the tip of her fingers.
she At that time, she began to admire hackers and felt motivated to become one in the future. However, as grew older, the thought of that somehow faded away when she realized the things she could find out with her hacking skills could also be found by the police, military, and some other national agencies.
By the time Alison was a high-school student, she was already a good hacker even though her teacher retired at that time. Being young and bold, she was prompted by her rebellious nature to help whoever was in need by serving justice. Therefore, she would look into criminal cases and send whatever information she could find on the internet to the police.
Nevertheless, as she spent more time hacking, she started digging deeper and deeper into the unseen world of the internet, which was the dark web. It was a foreign website that contained all sorts of shady and illegal trading. Because of that, she was exposed to many gory scenes and unspeakable horrors of violence. It was then that she realized the world had people who were even more cold-blooded than the devil.
involved Since then, Alison decided to become less active in her hacking career and only chose to get when the police had trouble solving the case since she knew they could do what she did. Not long after that, she began slowing down her hacking career even more, feeling grateful at the same time for the fact that she was living in her home country, which was a lot safer than living abroad.
“Alright, that’s enough.” Alison snapped out of her memories when she saw that the progress bar had reached 100 percent on the monitor screen. She then opened the file and viewed its contents. “This was what happened when Julia got into the car accident. Take a look at it for yourself.” She tilted her laptop and slid it toward the two men.
Conner took the mouse and viewed the files one by one. After spending an hour going through each of -them, he finally finished viewing all of the files. As soon as he finished the final file, he was blown away by what he saw. “It was all such a meticulous plan. I can’t believe the culprit did all that for a car accident.”
Deep down, what stunned Conner the most was Alison’s hacking skills; she was able to gather all the chat logs between the culprit and everyone else involved. This is sick! “Boss, Miss Lambert didn’t do it.” Conner acted as if he was Alison’s henchman. “All we have to do is give this piece of evidence to the police to prove her innocence.”

“How can you take her word for it?” Brayden gave his a**istant a glacial look.
Conner was speechless, finding it hard to understand why Brayden still doubted Alison’s innocence despite the convincing evidence.
“Have you forgotten that she is a hacker?” Brayden set his gaze on Alison, his body giving off a cold aura. “Faking the evidence would be a piece of cake to her.”
“Boss, you… Conner was hesitant.
“Don’t be fooled by your eyes. What you see may not be the truth.” Brayden added, “After all, the so-called truth might be fake.”
“If you don’t want to apologize, just say so. You don’t have to act like a strange creep here,” Alison responded calmly instead of flipping out.
“I know you’re a good hacker, but you ought to stop being so cocky.” Brayden placed his hands in his pockets and walked up to her coldly. “I don’t believe a single thing you just showed me.”
Alison retorted, “I don’t care whether you believe me or not. After all, she reckoned what mattered the most was that the evidence could help her prove her innocence to the police and perhaps even help them find the culprit.
Brayden pinched Alison’s chin in response, but the lady didn’t stand by and give in this time. Instead, she quickly grabbed his wrist and landed a kick on his belly, sending him falling backward. Caught off guard by Alison’s unexpected reaction, the unsuspecting man became agitated.
That’s so cool, Miss Lambert! Conner thought to himself.
“If you ever dare lay a finger on me again, I won’t mind tearing your arm apart.” Alison looked Brayden in the eye coldly while threatening him.
“Try me.” Brayden gritted his teeth.
“Alright, I’ll grant your wish.” Alison walked closer to the man.
Nevertheless, Conner immediately stood between the duo and directed his attention to Alison. “Please don’t do this! It’s obvious that my boss is trying to make you hit him. There are surveillance cameras right here, and if you’re caught hitting him, he could charge you for a**ault.”
Meanwhile, Brayden’s forehead was covered in veins when he heard what Conner said. How dare you, Conner?! You’re going to get it from me soon!
“Who cares? There’s nothing a little hacking can’t settle, Alison responded in a fit of pique.
On the other hand, Conner couldn’t agree more with Alison despite feeling stunned. Knowing his idol would probably be safe, he stood aside and said, “Do what you think is necessary, then. If anything happens to my boss, I’ll call the ambulance right away!”
Brayden was rendered speechless by Conner’s behavior, wishing he could just throw his a**istant out of the place. He bellowed, “What are you waiting for? Go!”
Conner was filled with confusion when he heard that, wondering where else they should be going. “The police must verify her evidence to see if it’s genuine or fake,” Brayden explained, but deep down, he wanted to settle his score with Alison personally. “Let’s waste no time.” Upon hearing his boss, Conner gave Alison a worried look.
In the meantime, Brayden was piqued by the humiliation Alison put him through, thinking line of her fighting skills and hot temper. At the same time, he couldn’t help complaining about Conner’s insubordinate behavior on the inside, wondering if he had forgotten who his boss was.
“Miss Lambert is the director’s favorite, so I’d like to remind you to think twice before acting Conner held the laptop in his hands and added, “Furthermore, what we just saw is real evidence, and they haven’t been faked.”
When Conner noticed Brayden glaring at him, he quickly carried the laptop in his arms and walked away. Then, he sat in the driver’s seat and sent Alison a message before he hit the road. “If my boss crosses the line, send me a message. I’ll be sure to get the director involved. Wanting to share his joy more, he then opened another chatroom to express his excitement. ‘Let me tell you some good news. Mrs. Cornell, my boss wife, is such a skilled hacker!’
‘So is my boss, Holiday Salaryman responded.
‘Mrs. Cornell is a skilled fighter, Conner replied.
“My boss can fight ten people like you, Holiday Salaryman replied.
Mrs. Cornell can fight two times that number of people, Conner responded in return.
‘Well, my boss can kill several people in just a few seconds. Holiday Salaryman showed no signs of giving in.
