Chapter 46 You Believe Everyone Except Me
Alison was speechless, and so were the men.
They were just lying according to the script, but why did Brayden believe them?
“Mr. Cornell, to be honest…” One of the men felt a little guilty, and he wanted to explain that Alison had indeed run very fast.
Brayden glared at him coldly.
The man in the white t-shirt quickly added, “Miss Lambert did outrun us, but that was because she asked us to run slower beforehand, lest we catch up to her.”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Exactly!”
The others played along.
The man in the white t-shirt glanced at the man who was about to spill the beans, and he seemed upset.
Alison caught sight of that scene.
“Get lost.” Brayden could hardly suppress the fury in his heart when he heard that,
The group instantly dissipated.
Alison didn’t get the chance to grab onto someone so that she could ask more questions.
When Conner saw those people disappearing, he immediately started the car and turned it around, then pulled up by the road and opened the door to get out.
Before he could say anything, he saw Alison breaking free of Brayden’s hold on her hand, and her usually calm face was tinted with anger.
“Boss, Mrs. Cornell.” Conner spoke up appropriately. “You should continue the conversation at home.”
“Call me Alison.” Alison corrected Conner’s way of referring to her.
Meanwhile, Brayden was bursting with coldness.
Conner gulped, then corrected himself in the end. “Miss Lambert, who are those people? How did you get involved with them?”
It was something better left unsaid, for when he mentioned it, Brayden and Alison’s expressions instantly clouded over.
Alison turned around to leave. She didn’t have the slightest intention to go with Brayden.
“Stop right there!” Brayden roared.
Alison ignored him completely.
Brayden grabbed her hand from behind and forced her into the car. Then, he shouted at Conner, saying, “Start the car!”
Conner pretended to ignore everything and drove as he was told to
Alison wanted to cuss him out. but when she thought about it, there was no need for her to be mad at a dog. He must have taken her away to ask about her motives, as well as why the wanted to frame Julia
She didn’t care.
The car drove on, and more than an hour later, they arrived at Emperor Gardens.
Conner opened the door with shaky hands. He couldn’t understand it at all. Hadn’t Alison been bullied? Why was Brayden angry at Alison?
Brayden dragged Alison out of the car.
If it weren’t for her superior self-control. Alison would’ve given Brayden a shoulder throw.
They hadn’t divorced yet, so to prevent any unforeseen circumstances, she wouldn’t show him everything she had, including her skills.
Bang!
Brayden slammed the door, making a thunderous noise.
He flung Alison onto the couch, then looked down at her. “Why did you do that, and how did you know about my schedule?”
“You should ask whoever told you that.”.
“Alison!”
“Keep it down. My ears are working fine.”
“I’ve given you everything I should, and you’ve also agreed to the divorce. Why did you frame Julia for hiring people to beat you up?” Brayden continued to interrogate, “What exactly are you trying to do?”
Alison was suddenly curious about something. She stood up, and her five-foot-six stature was visibly shorter than Brayden’s.
She stared into his eyes just like that. “Do you believe everyone except me?”
“What do you think?” Brayden returned the question.
“I’ve already said what I should.” After getting her answer, Alison gave up completely. “You decide what to believe.”
“I’m warning you one last time–don’t pull these dirty tricks again.” Brayden was furious when he remembered what happened. “If you dare touch Julia again, I will never let you off the hook.”
Alison didn’t even respond to that.
His words were nothing to her, and she could just forget about it.
Seeing her stubborn and nonchalant behavior, Brayden only felt madder.
How could someone act so confident even after committing a mistake?
“Stay put here for the next few days.” Brayden was trying to ground her. “You are not allowed to take even a step outside before we sign the divorce papers!”
With that, he made a phone call and gathered more than 20 bodyguards here to surround the entire villa.
Meanwhile, Alison couldn’t be bothered to struggle. She was quick to adapt to new surroundings, so after scanning the place, she asked, “Where will I be sleeping
Brayden took a deep breath, his anger stoked even more.
After everything he said, she was only concerned about sleeping!
“Do you think that you can do whatever you like simply because my parents and grandfather pamper you?”
“Why not?” Alison had already recovered her calmness. “Even Old Mr. Cornell treats me like his own. granddaughter.”
Brayden was speechless.
Where was her shame?
“Don’t forget to send me outfits to change into,” Alison ordered calmly. “Also, get me some sanitary napkins, daily and overnight ones. I’m expecting my period.”
Brayden said nothing.
Seeing his lack of response, Alison asked, “Did you get that?”
“I’m not your servant.”
“Can I go out to get them, then?”
“In your dreams!”
Their conversation ended unhappily.
Despite how reluctant Brayden was, considering how much his grandfather cared about Alison, he still asked someone to prepare what she had asked for.
Alison placed her stuff in the room she used to stay in. After showering, she lay on the bed. She only had a phone in her hands.
In reality, she had many ways to escape.
She could jump from the second floor to escape; she could call up Brayden’s parents and grandfather; or she could tell Charles about it.
But she knew that if she did any of those, it would only end up in an endless argument with Brayden.
For the past mere 20 days, she had gotten into too many arguments with Brayden. To be honest, she was tired of living like that.
She gave up on struggling so that she could have more peace in her life.
As she pondered, her mind went to the incident just now.
She frowned slightly, then after much consideration, she decided to call up James. She had to investigate some things, after all.
As soon as the call went through, James’ confused voice rould be heard. “Alison?”
“Help me check if Brayden has any close female friends, instructed Alison. She then added, “Or if anyone. likes him.”
Julia had gotten into an accident and was robbed of her innocence, whereas Alison was jumped. Alison refused to believe that these incidents had nothing to do with each other. Even though the suspect behind Julia’s accident was caught, Alison’s sixth sense told her that there was more to it.
She even suspected that these three incidents were the work of a single person.
This person was trying to destroy her and Julia’s positions in Brayden’s heart.
Regarding Julia’s accident, the driver’s WhatsApp messages framed Alison. If she hadn’t dealt with it wisely, Brayden would’ve believed that she was the culprit.
Meanwhile, Julia’s loss of innocence probably stemmed from that person wanting Brayden to regard Julia as flawed, but they had underestimated Brayden’s affection for Julia.
As for Alison’s getting jumped tonight, those hired men slandered Alison in front of Brayden.
They were probably trying to get Brayden to hate her.
If Alison and Julia were gone from Brayden’s side, the vacant position of Mrs. Cornell would go to that
person.
