Chapter 43 I Must Be Drunk to Reason With a Dog
Brayden stressed, “She’s not a lover, and I’m not cheating.”
Alison didn’t say anything in response to that, for nothing Brayden said mattered.
“It’s your business if you want to think like that.” Alison had already labeled Brayden as a cheater. After all, even thinking about it was considered cheating. “I’ll say this one last time. I don’t care if it’s you or Julia; if you come to me again because of something between you two, I won’t hesitate to expose your dirty laundry. Decide for yourself whether you can withstand the impact of public opinion or not.”
“What about you?” Brayden’s interrogative gaze fell upon her.
Alison frowned. “What about me?”
“What about you and Charles? And that time you went to a hotel with Tom in Imperia?” Brayden asked in a low voice as he stared at her. “If I hadn’t been there back then, and if it were someone else instead, would you have followed them as well?”
It was the first time Alison had gotten so enraged. She was trying to reason with him, but he was spouting
nonsense.
She pushed him away and said viciously, “I must be drunk to reason with a dog!”
Brayden fell silent.
Just as Alison was considering dragging him through the door and tossing him out, Brayden strode past her with his long legs, walking in and sitting on the couch like he owned the place.
He initially came over to have a proper discussion with Alison; it wouldn’t be appropriate for Julia to talk to her about it, after all.
For some reason, when he saw her cold and distant face, he couldn’t help but want to provoke her.
Alison glanced at the man sitting on the couch. She knew Brayden very well. If he insisted on staying, she wouldn’t be able to chase him away.
She couldn’t ask the property management for help, nor could she report it to the police.
They would only brush the matter off, saying they wouldn’t be able to help since it was a private issue.
At this thought, she decided to give up.
Alison went back to the dining table and continued her meal. Fortunately, she wasn’t a picky eater, so sh could still stomach her food despite being in a foul mood.
As for Brayden, who was sitting on the couch, he felt even more pissed when he saw how much she enjoyed her food.
He had driven for more than an hour on an empty stomach. He didn’t get to eat anything when he arrived, and he even got so worked up because of a certain someone.
Thinking about this, Brayden frowned as he dialed a number.
When Conner received the call, he had just finished lunch. “Boss.”
Conner was stunned.
He had never been so bewildered before, and in his confusion, he asked where Brayden was.
Brayden told him Alison’s address.
“It would take more than an hour to go from the company to Mrs. Cornell’s place. Conner never thought. that Brayden would be at that location. “Including the time needed to place an order, it’d take at least two hours.”
It was already 12.30PM, so Brayden could only get his lunch delivered to him shortly before 3.00PM.
“Alright,” Brayden said calmly.
Once again, Conner was stunned. What?
He glanced at the name displayed on the screen. After confirming it was indeed his boss, he began to doubt reality.
Brayden was someone who would have his meals on time whenever he could help it, but now, what was going on?
“Why don’t you ask Mrs. Cornell to take you out for lunch?” Conner suggested. Brayden didn’t even fancy takeout. “The food might not be delicious anymore by the time it reaches your location.”
“Whatever.” With that, Brayden hung up.
Conner realized something right away.
Brayden was probably thinking of having lunch at Alison’s place, but he didn’t want to mention it becaus of his pride.
The two had most likely gotten into an argument! What was more, they were so childish that they would consider whoever spoke first the loser.
Dang it! This is unbelievable!
Meanwhile, Alison had just finished lunch and cleared the table when she noticed a new WhatsApp message on her phone. ‘Mrs. Cornell, Boss hasn’t eaten yet, and it will take quite some time for the food arrive if I deliver it from here. Could you take him out for a meal?’
Alison replied, ‘No can do..
Conner typed, ‘I know you’re kind and beautiful. You’d definitely help me out.
She responded, ‘No matter how kind and beautiful I am, you cannot force me to take a dog out to dine.
He was speechless. While cursing in his heart, he quietly sent his boss a message. ‘Your lunch will be arriving at 3.00PM.
Brayden blinked several times before frowning.
Before he could respond to the message, Alison’s voice rang out.
She was holding a notebook she had placed on the table, then asked naturally, “Conner asked me to take you out for lunch. Are you down for it?”
“I don’t like heavy meals.” Brayden began to get picky, but he wondered what on earth Conner was trying
to do.
He stood up and smoothed out his suit. Then, he walked up to Alison and said calmly, “Let’s go.”
“Go straight over there and round the bend.” Alison gave him directions as if she weren’t extremely mad a few moments ago. “Your favorite mea! is inside.”
Brayden was stunned.
Her words sent ripples spreading through his heart. As he gazed at her pale and exquisite face with his dark eyes, a sense of guilt he had never experienced before welled up in his heart.
After all, the matter concerning him and Julia was still unfair to her.
As he thought about it, an idea occurred to him. He decided that he would talk to her peacefully after the meal, and he would also apologize on Julia’s behalf.
“Thanks,” he uttered in his deep yet complicated voice. Then, Brayden turned around and headed in the direction Alison had shown him.
A few seconds later, he arrived at the designated room.
He didn’t think much about it as he placed his hand on the handle and opened the door. When he saw what lay behind the door, fury burned in his eyes.
Alison! His expression was stormy as he closed the door in anger. He went back to the living room, deciding to give Alison her due punishment.
That woman was too much! She was telling him to eat in the toilet!
By the time he returned to the living room, Alison was nowhere in sight.
She had already returned to her room on the second floor, and after locking the door, she put on noise- canceling earphones and started working on her stuff.
She wasn’t afraid that Brayden would come kicking down the door. If he wanted to kick the door open, h might have to break his legs first.
At the president’s office in Cornell Corporation two hours later, Conner stood in confusion as he waited for Brayden’s announcement.
He was on his way to deliver Brayden’s food when he suddenly received a call from the latter, telling him that he didn’t have to deliver lunch anymore and that he had to organize a meeting for all the departments.
Since when had they held such meetings on Wednesdays?
Nonetheless, he didn’t dare ask
“Have you organized the meeting?”
“Yes, everyone is waiting for you to arrive.”
Must Be Drunk to Reason With a Dog
Brayden didn’t say more as he asked Conner to get the documents, then went to the meeting room.
On this day, everyone could feel the dark mood in the meeting room. When the person from the first department was called out and reprimanded, the people from the other departments could feel a blade hanging above their heads.
By the time the meeting ended, everyone who attended the meeting was harshly scolded.
It occurred to them that their president was in a very bad mood today.
“Everyone who did not pa** just now will be on cleaning duty for a month. You’ll be cleaning the toilets” Brayden’s voice was cold, and his gaze was like a sharp blade.
Conner was once again bewildered, as well as everyone who had failed. Cleaning duty?!
