Chapter 41 His Lover Is Devious
“Miss Shaw had asked me to get you and Mom’s approval on her.” Alison livened up the mood to ensure that Barry wouldn’t get angry. “She told me to get you guys to agree on Brayden’s marriage with her. She wants to be accepted into the Cornell Family.”
As soon as Julia heard her words, her smile stiffened, and she stared at Alison intently. Never would she expect that Alison would
that Alison would say her plan aloud!
After Barry had heard what Alison said, he replied mockingly, “Well, tell her to buy a better pillow to sleep at night. After all, you can have anything you want when dreaming.”
“Okay.” Alison nodded.
Then, the two chit–chatted for some time before Barry reluctantly hung up the phone. After that, Alison told the news to Julia, who was unhappy. “I did what you told me to. Grandpa said it’s best to buy a better pillow to sleep at night.”
“You did it on purpose!” Julia would be a fool if she didn’t know what Alison was planning.
“Yup.” Alison didn’t deny it.
“Why would you do this to me?!” Julia’s eyes were filled with anger as she was infuriated by Alison’s doings. “You could have said no if you refused to help me!”
Alison sipped her coffee and said nothing.
Looking at her reaction, Julia gripped her knuckles tightly on both sides. Old Mr. Cornell and Madam Cornell hate me enough for making Brayden divorcing Alison. Now that Alison deliberately causes such trouble, Old Mr. Cornell will despise me even more! It’s all Alison’s fault!
The hatred she had for Alison grew as she thought about it. “Don’t think they will let you stay in the Cornell Family just because they like you. As long as Brayden isn’t in love with you, you are nothing.”
“You’re right,” Alison replied calmly.
Julia gritted her teeth as she got angrier. However, compared to her, Alison seemed to be calm and composed. Looking at her, Julia felt like a laughingstock as she sat before her.
“Do you still have anything to talk about?” Alison asked casually.
Although Julia wanted to leave, she remembered what had happened. Thus, she looked at Alison with teary eyes and asked, “Something happened to me at the hotel. Are you the one behind it?”
“No,” Alison replied.
“I haven’t said what it was. Why do you deny it in such a rush?” At that moment, Julia was confident that Alison had planned it.
“Brayden told me before about this.” Alison didn’t try to add insult to injury. She stared at Julia for a few seconds and said, “You better check your brain functionality when you have the time. Maybe do a brain scan.”
Julia’s heart dropped when she heard Alison’s words. After all, she heard Alison could diagnose some symptoms simply by judging a person’s pupils. Thus, she wondered if there was something wrong with her brain.
“What’s the matter with my brain?” she asked.
“You might have a screw loose in your head,” Alison replied faintly.
Julia gripped the coffee cup tightly and shot daggers at Alison. If looks could kill, Alison would be dead by now!
On the other hand, Alison didn’t say anything more. Just as she stood up from her seat, Julia followed suit. Then, she tried to tug on Alison’s arm by the doorway. Alison avoided her attempt like Julia was a disgusting embodiment. “What exactly do you want from me?” She was getting fed up with Julia.
“I want to prove that Brayden will choose me over you.” Although Julia spoke in a low voice, Alison could still hear it.
At that moment, she felt that Julia was pitiful. However, it was not because of sympathy but of detestable.
Then, she looked at Julia and said, “He chose you long ago.” She couldn’t understand why Julia would be so deeply in love with Brayden. Moreover, Brayden was already with her, so Alison felt it was appalling that Julia still decided to prove this to her.
A glint flashed across Julia’s eyes as she looked at Alison. Just as she was about to do something, Alison spoke up, “If you want to fall or try to bump into me to frame me, I suggest you stop. There are surveillance cameras here.”
When Julia looked over, her heart dropped. After all, if she had indeed done what Alison said, Brayden would have found out that she did it on purpose. Thus, everything she did would be useless.
Eventually, Alison stopped acknowledging her. She took her stuff and left the coffee shop. Just as she got home, she got a text from Whiskers.
Whiskers had texted, ‘Holy sh*t! Guess what I’ve found, Aly? Your future ex–husband’s lover is devious!‘
Alison put down her laptop and gave a call to James as she sat on the couch. “Did you investigate her?”
“I was curious. I wanted to see what kind of a person she would be to have said such shameless words.” James felt guilty as he spoke. However, he soon got excited as he talked about the gossip he found. “I did find out a big secret of hers, though.”
“Take that secret to the grave.” Alison was not interested in hearing these kinds of stuff.
“Don’t you want to know the purpose of Julia’s returning?” James had found out her name when investigating.
“It has nothing to do with me.” Alison kept her ground.
Despite that, he still spilled the tea. “She is back just to get Brayden’s money. She wants to spend his money on another man.”
Hearing his words, Alison was at a loss for words. “Stop watching those cliche movies.”
“I’m telling the truth!” James used his shoulder to keep the phone in place as he typed furiously on the keyboard. Then, he screenshotted a picture and sent it to her. “If you don’t believe me, see it for yourself. The reason they broke up was because Brayden didn’t support her.”
“What?” The more Alison heard him talking, the more confused she was. She was not interested in this kind of topic. “Next time, don’t go searching for someone’s personal information. Cyberattacks are illegal.”
“Aren’t you curious at all? Not even a tad bit?”
“Not at all,” she replied. With that, she hung up on James. What she said to him was true. It was none of her business as to why Julia came back or how they broke up. As long as it didn’t affect her daily life, she wouldn’t intervene.
At the same time, Julia had returned to the apartment that Brayden bought her. Then, she called him and cried as she complained about what Alison did today.
“I didn’t know she would say such words. Say, will Grandpa detest me even more now?” She acted miserable as usual.
“Why did you go and find her?” asked Brayden as he frowned. In front of him were a bunch of files that needed to be signed.
When Julia heard his words, she stopped crying and asked, “H–Have I done something wrong?”
“Alison has nothing to do with us. I’ll deal with those things that you are concerned about.” The man’s voice was deep as he spoke. He felt slightly tired. “Next time, don’t bother her with this kind of thing.”
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s fine.” As Brayden spoke, his mind was filled with moments when Alison was disgusted by him. “Don’t overthink it. I’ll be over there once I’m done with my work.”
Julia listened to his words obediently. However, she was slightly irked by the fact that he had forbidden her to look for Alison.
After she hung up the call, the old phone she hid under her pillow started to vibrate.
In that split second, her face turned pale.
