Chapter 36 I Would Say She Deserves It
“Got it,” Brayden responded before hanging up the phone.
He knew his family would never accept Julia as his wife, whether it was his parents or grandpa. They were all on Alison’s side.
After letting his thoughts run wild momentarily, he suppressed his emotions and headed to the address Alison had sent. He left the company and simply took a car. When he arrived at the coffee shop, Alison was already there. After several days of not seeing each other, Brayden had an indescribable feeling as he met her again. Unlike those girls who had gone through a breakup, Alison didn’t seem to have it tough after leaving him.
However, he didn’t comment anything about it. After he sat in front of her, he went straight to the point. “Did Julia say anything to you other than she is pregnant?”
Instead of answering him, Alison opened the recorder on her phone and passed it to Brayden.
The man gave her a look when he saw her actions. Nonetheless, he still listened to it. His heart squeezed slightly when he heard something was wrong with Julia’s voice. Without a second thought, he looked at Alison and blamed her, “Why didn’t you find me the second she called you?”
Hearing his words, Alison was speechless. “Why should I help her?” she asked flatly.
“She wouldn’t have called you if she wasn’t in trouble.” A cold aura emitted from Brayden as he spoke angrily.
As she heard his words, she wondered how he had the nerve to say such words. “Do you want to pick a fight?”
He pursed his lips and said nothing. Then, he dialed Julia’s number on Alison’s phone. When he realized she had blocked Julia’s number, he unblocked it and called her.
Looking at his actions, Alison couldn’t care less about arguing with him.
After some time, Julia picked up the call.
“Miss Lambert…” Her soft voice sounded from the other end of the phone.
“It’s me,” Brayden replied with a gentle tone.
When Alison heard his tone of voice, she felt she would throw up. Still, she didn’t stop him. After all, she knew it was useless to do so with that personality of his, as it would only lead them to another fight had she done so.
“Brayden…” Immediately, Julia cried out loud. She sobbed and sounded miserable.
“It’s okay. Take your time.” Brayden was being soft to her. “You… Why did you tell Alison that you are pregnant with my child? We didn’t even-
“I can only think of such a way since I can’t contact you.” She kept on crying.
“What happened?”
“I…”
“It’s okay. Just take your time.”
“I’ve been tainted, Brayden.”
As soon as he heard her words, he froze on the spot.
Meanwhile, Julia was still sobbing relentlessly.
Brayden suppressed his emotions since he knew that Julia needed him now. “Who did it?” he asked.
“I don’t know…” Her voice was hoarse as she spoke. It was clear that she was in a miserable state. “Yesterday, I got a text while shopping with Amy at night. The person pretended to be you. He said he missed me and was waiting for me at the hotel.”
Brayden gripped the phone tightly as he heard her words.
“I miss you so much. When I saw the message, I thought you changed your phone number for fear that Miss Lambert would know you had contacted me. Thus, I went to that hotel. However, I was knocked out as soon as I entered the room. When I woke up, I was…” Julia was devastated. She couldn’t manage to talk about it anymore. “I’m afraid to contact you, Brayden, but you are the only one I can rely on now.”
Her last words were the last straw for Brayden. “Where are you now?” he asked without a second thought.
“At that apartment you gave me,” she replied as she curled on the bed. Her eyes were red and puffy from crying.
“Stay there and wait for me,” he told her and made a promise. “I’m coming back now. Don’t overthink this.”
“But… Miss Lambert…”
“I’ll deal with it.” After that, Brayden hung up the phone and returned it to Alison. In the end, he let his feelings get to him. “From today onward, the promise we made is invalid. Something happened to Julia, and I need to be by her side now.”
As Alison listened to him, she said nothing and merely stared at him. For as long as she knew him, this was the first time he had broken his promise.
“If you refuse to get a divorce with me because of this, I will make you have no choice but to do as I say.” Brayden cut off all hopes for her.
However, Alison didn’t care about those things. Compared to Brayden, she longed to end this disgusting and outrageous marriage she once had. She just wanted an answer from him. “Brayden,” she called out.
The man looked at her.
“Do you love Julia that much?” she asked calmly.
“Yes.”
“To the point that you are willing to disgust me repeatedly?”
This time, he said nothing.
Looking at him, Alison was tired of saying anything more. “If you choose to leave Imperia for her, we will become enemies the next time we meet.” The best she could tolerate was that they got a peaceful divorce and became strangers. However, since Brayden decided to break their promise, she didn’t mind making things difficult for him. After all, she hated being cheated on.
When Brayden heard her words, he was angry. “Can you stop acting childish? I wouldn’t have broken our promise if nothing happened to Julia.”
“That’s none of my

business.”
“I rest my case. It’s up to you to decide,” Alison said faintly as she stirred her coffee.
At that moment, Brayden’s eyes darkened. “Are you insisting on pushing my buttons?”
“You sure know how to twist the facts, Mr. Cornell.” She put down the spoon and put up a sarcastic smile. “It was you who cheated on me first. How could you say that I’m the one who pushes your buttons?”
The man calmed himself down since he didn’t intend to pick a fight with her. “Someone has hurt Julia,” he said.
Alison crossed her arms and shrugged. “And what’s that got to do with me?”
“She had been raped in a hotel room,” Brayden explained with a grim expression. “You are a woman, too. You should know how devastating it is for a woman to have gone through this kind
of thing. It happened to her because she was trying to meet me. I can’t just sit still and do nothing.”
Something stirred in Alison when she heard the first part of his words. After all, although she hated Julia, it didn’t mean she would be happy learning that someone had taken advantage of Julia. However, she suppressed her emotions upon hearing the end of his words. She didn’t feel the need to be worried about Julia. As for the ones who hurt Julia, she knew that Brayden would take care of them.
After composing herself, she said coldly, “That’s her problem. It’s none of mine.”
Brayden couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “What did you say?”
Alison said nothing more. She didn’t like to repeat her words.
you
“When did you become so cold–hearted?” He looked at her as if she was a stranger. “Even if hate her, she is still a woman. How can you be so cold–hearted when such a horrible thing has happened to her?” His face was cold.
At that moment, Alison was riled up. She met his stern gaze and retorted, “If I’m truly cold- blooded, I would say she deserves it.”
“Alison!”
