Chapter 31 Why Aren’t We Going to the Hotel Yet?
James furrowed his brows when he heard his father coming to his defense. He hated attending these parties because he didn’t want to see his father like this.
He knew that at business banquets, everyone had to curry favors with those in higher positions than themselves. Regardless, knowing was one thing, but actually liking it was another.
So, he instinctively turned to look at Alison.
Sure enough, staying by her was the most comfortable place he could be at.
“Aren’t you taking me to the hotel?” Alison withdrew her gaze as she looked at Tom with darkened eyes. “Aren’t you leaving?”
Everyone, including Tom, was confused by what they heard.
Brayden, who had been playing with his phone, tightened his grasp around his phone.
James was the only one drinking his glass of wine silently with lowered gaze, not daring to say anything. He knew very well that Alison was about to do something!
“Why are you in such a rush? Don’t think that being Mr. Cornell’s woman gives you the right to be rude.” Tom felt uncomfortable with the way Alison was talking to him as if he was a pimp. “To Mr. Cornell, you’re just an object for him to release himself.”
Brayden’s eyes darkened slightly as he kept his gaze locked on Alison. Sometimes, he was impressed by how she could hear such vile things and still remain unnerved.
“Mr. Cornell.” Tom reverted to his obsequious attitude and said tentatively, “The cooperation between us…”
“Conner will settle it,” Brayden answered.
Tom was delighted upon hearing that. “Thank you, then, Mr. Cornell!”
It was everyone’s dream to work with either Lambert International or Cornell Corporation.
Tom knew he would never have a chance to work with Lambert International, but now he had managed to score a cooperation with Cornell Corporation!
As long as there was a chance, he would attempt to establish a good relationship with Brayden to allow them to cooperate closely with each other.
With that thought in mind, Tom brought Alison away.
Alison was very cooperative throughout the whole thing. After all, she had already planned to
strike once they arrived at the hotel Tom was taking her to.
On the other hand, the people at the banquet began to chatter for a while.
Everyone had their own judgment of things.
They won’t interfere or stop them in this kind of consensual matter.
Ten minutes later, someone spoke up.
“Since Mr. Cornell is busy today, we won’t bother you.”
“As for the cooperation, let’s talk about it another day.”
“What do you think, Mr. Cornell?”
Brayden stood up and scanned the group of people with a deep look in his eyes. “I’ll get Mr. Larson to get in touch with all of you, but whether we can cooperate depends on the project itself.”
As soon as he said this, he strode away.
Once he stepped out of the room, Conner immediately went up to greet him politely, “Boss.”
“Where’s Alison?” Brayden asked with a heavy heart.
“I’ve already had a few people following her.” As Brayden’s assistant, Conner knew what he should do without being told. “If Mrs. Cornell is in danger, the bodyguards will rescue her.”
Brayden felt slightly relieved but still indifferently said, “How problematic!”
Conner merely smiled without saying a word. It was hard to know what his boss was thinking.
“Help me settle the Skyard Corporation,” Brayden said indifferently as he adjusted his tie. “Garbage belongs in the trash, not on the dining table.”
Conner instantly understood what he meant. “Got it.”
Skyard Corporation was a company under Tom Chapman.
Brayden was venting his anger on behalf of his wife.
“Go to the hotel.” He parted his thin lips slightly and intoned deeply.
Conner drove to the hotel immediately. The moment he received the message from Brayden, he drove straight to the hotel.
On the way there, he thought about what had happened just now and couldn’t hold back his curiosity as he asked, “Boss, I have a question that I don’t know if I should ask.”
“Don’t ask if you don’t know whether you should,” Brayden rebuked mercilessly.
“By agreeing to let Tom send Mrs. Cornell to your bed, won’t that be letting yourself get cuckolded?” Tom had always been a bold and gossip–prone man. “How does it feel to date your president’s wife like this?”
“You can forget your year–end bonus,” Brayden muttered bitterly.
Conner was speechless!
He knew that if he didn’t say anything, Brayden would really skip out on his bonus. “Boss, don’t worry, I will get someone to settle the things at Skyard Corporation, and I’ll let them know who is the one protecting Mrs. Cornell.”
“Scrap the quarterly bonus as well.”
“Boss…” Now, Conner really didn’t know where he went wrong.
“Alison and I are divorced,” Brayden said coldly as he gripped his mobile phone. “The only reason I’m attacking Tom is because I find his moral stance disgusting.”
Conner did not reply. You’ve already divorced Mrs. Cornell for the sake of the woman you love. What moral stance are you talking about?
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“You’re not getting your mid–year bonus as well,” Brayden repeated.
Despite Conner’s good personality, his mentality was beginning to crumble at this moment.
Where did he misspoke again?
“I think there’s something you forgot.” He racked his brains as he drove. “Although you and Mrs. Cornell are divorced, as long as you haven’t gotten your divorce certificate, you two are still legally in a relationship. Therefore, as long as you’re still in a legal relationship with Mrs. Cornell, you’re obligated to help her deal with this scum.”
“She’s going into this with her eyes wide open.” Brayden was getting angry, thinking about the past. “She even urged Tom to bring her to the hotel quickly.”
“That’s because Mrs. Cornell knows that you will be the one that spends the day with her once they get to the hotel.”
“She doesn’t want to see me.”
At this point, Conner didn’t know what else he could say in order to save his bonus.
How dare you say that? You know that she doesn’t want to see you. Yet, you continued to embarrass her in front of so many people. It was no wonder she wanted a divorce!
Brayden looked at the back of Conner’s head and raised his eyelids before asking dangerously, “Are you cursing me in your heart?”
“I’m not.” By now, Conner had enough practice on how to lie without blushing, “I was just thinking about how you and Mrs. Cornell would be able to spend the day together.”
It was only noon.
There were still a few hours left before the evening.
Judging from Alison’s attitude after seeing Brayden, it would be a miracle if they could stay in the same room for more than ten minutes.
Brayden ignored Conner; he was also in deep thought about the same thing. Ever since their fight at the hospital, he noticed that Alison didn’t seem to like him.
Today, he just wanted to show her that this circle wasn’t as good as she imagined.
She now had about 500 million.
She could have lived a good life with that money.
Brayden dismissed all that nonsense from his mind as he leaned back onto the car seat and closed his eyes to rest.
Not long after they left, Hannah and Carl appeared at the venue. Just as they were about to go in, Hannah received a message from James telling her that everything had been resolved.
He didn’t dare to tell her what happened in the room.
Nonetheless, he was well aware that Alison was capable of taking care of herself.
On the other hand, Alison was being escorted to the hotel by Tom.
It was evident that Tom had put a lot of effort into trying to please Brayden. The whole suite was arranged in advance to look like a love hotel.
The lighting was ambiguous. He had even ordered some scented candles to be lit in the room.
Everything was ready. All that was lacking was the leading man for tonight’s activities.
