Chapter 29 Don’t Give Up if You Meet Someone Worth It
It made Hannah so indignant to think that there was such a terrible person who could treat her beloved sister this way!
“By the way,” she started. “When you decided to go through with the divorce, did you ensure that he wouldn’t get a single penny from you? It’s also a form of cheating when he asked for a divorce because of another woman.” As a young lady with a solid moral compa**, Hannah detested these kinds of men.
“Anna is right,” Carl took Hannah’s side without prompting.
“No.” When Alison saw the fury building in their eyes, she quickly added, “We divided the a**ets.”
“How did you divide it?”
“What did he give you?”
Both Carl and Hannah asked the same question at the same time, as though they were especially curious about this issue.
So, Alison revealed to them that the divorce agreement was filled out the same way as she agreed with Brayden verbally-the most expensive sports car, a villa in the suburbs, and forty percent of his income after the marriage. She thought that they would compliment her for doing a good job, but the truth was the opposite.
“Are you still in love with him?” Hannah asked, her brows knitted together in concern. “He got rid of you with that little bit of money?”
“Cornell Corporation rakes in tens of millions in net profit every year. It’s not okay that he only gives you that little.”
Alison rubbed her forehead, a little unsure how she should answer them. Indeed, a few million were a small amount to Lambert International, which was a vast difference compared to her annual net income.
“He used a big amount of money for investment, and I told him that we’re not dividing the money used for investment,” she explained. “Furthermore, I didn’t share anything with him.”
Hannah stared at Alison speechlessly. Then, she extended her hand and felt Alison’s forehead, which made Alison look somewhat bemused. “Aly, you gotta understand that he’s the cheating partner tha
has betrayed you!” The more she spoke, the angrier she became, and her head started to throb. “It’s only right that you give him nothing. Given his scum-like attitude, he’ll definitely use the money you split with him for his dream girl! No, this is not right. I can’t let you be taken advantage of like this. Let me call Charles so he can give Cornell a good lesson!”
She truly meant every word she said as she even whisked out her phone and wanted to make the call, but Alison stopped her in time.
“What’s the matter?” Hannah asked, puzzled.
“All these are enough, and the application is already submitted,” Alison explained calmly. “I have other ways to make his life hell. There’s no reason for me to agonize over this. Moreover…,” she paused for a second before adding, “If we really split everything equally after marriage, once news of our marriage is uncovered, the media may jump to a**umptions and claim that Lambert International has reached the point of relying on fraudulent marriage and alimony to continue operations.”
Her clarification made Carl and Hannah hesitate. The people who knew that Brayden divorced her because of Julia were a small circle of friends. If the media really got wind of this and made a report, she couldn’t say that he was the one who cheated because he never slept with Julia, and they didn’t spend a night together, either. It didn’t help matters that she had no solid evidence. that he actually committed adultery.
Even if the pictures of Brayden taking care of Julia were discovered, he could simply make a declaration through his public relations department that Julia was a friend. So, without any concrete evidence, the public would criticize the Lamberts badly instead.
However, it would be easy to explain the situation if she only received so little. Although a few million was an astronomical amount to other companies, to Lambert International, it was just a drop in the bucket.
“I’m sorry, Aly…” Hannah realized she was being impulsive. “I didn’t consider any of this.”
“You don’t have to apologize to me. I know that you’re just concerned about me.” Alison gave her a smile and gripped her hand gently. “I’ve already let go of Brayden, but you…”
Hannah blinked her innocent eyes. “What about me?”
“Although my marriage didn’t have a happy ending, I hope that you won’t be against marriage. If you meet someone worth it, don’t give up.” Now, she feared that Hannah would lose all hope in marriage.
“Don’t worry about that,” Hannah a**ured.
Their conversation was heartwarming, and Carl felt blissful as he watched. As long as his daughters were doing well, he was willing to pay any price for it.
“There’s something I have to discuss with Mr. Lambert.” In Hannah’s presence, Alison didn’t call him a scum buyinstead changed it to a formal form of address. “We’ll have a proper chat once you’re recovered.”
Hannah agreed, and Carl went to the corridor with Alison.
Carl-bore a considerable amount of guilt toward Alison. So, he always sounded meek whenever he faced Alison. “Aria, what would you like to discuss with me?”
“Who’s the current president of Lambert International?”
“Your cousin brother.”
“Do you mind giving me a position as an investment consultant?” she asked, her eyes flickering with unnamed emotions. “I’ll also need the project details in collaboration with Cornell Corporation.”
Her requests caught him off guard, and complicated emotions welled up in his eyes. “A-Are you willing to return to the company?”
“I’m just taking up a position, not succeeding it,” she answered curtly.
“Okay, I’ll see to it later.” Adrenaline pumped through his veins, and he asked in excitement, “Do you need anything else besides details of the collaboration with Cornell Corporation?”
“I’ll also need a list of future projects that Lambert International is participating in.” It had always been her style to do things straightforwardly.
Before today, she had never hit Brayden’s face, and just like what she told him before, exes were as good as dead to her. Nonetheless, he made her really upset with the things he said today, and she wanted to give him a punch in the field that he was so confident in.
“Okay!” As Carl wanted her to take over the company a long time ago, he didn’t waste even a second before agreeing to her requests. Alas, despite his fervent wishes, Alison was not the least interested in being an heiress. Even though she has outstanding talents to be a businesswoman, she never picked up any position in Lambert International, but now, she finally did it!
In contrast, Alison was calm and composed. She quickly recalled that she needed to collect the divorce papers in Riverton, so she said, “I’ll spend the next few days familiarizing myself with the situation. Then, once the divorce is finalized, I’ll take up the position officially.”
“Okay,” Carl agreed immediately. “You can come whenever you’re ready.”
Alison uttered a soft hum in reply. During the next few days, Brayden didn’t contact her. While he was busy with business cooperation, she had her neck deep in finding out about Hannah’s incident. In a blink of an eye, seven days pa**ed by.
Hannah was finally discharged from the hospital after a complete body checkup and repeated affirmations that she was fine. Fortunately, the fracture in her arm wasn’t serious, and she recovered well after a few days of rest in the hospital. If it had been a severe break, she could forget about recovering within a month.
As for the injury on her head, it only seemed gory because of the profuse bleeding. Nevertheless, it recovered pretty quickly under the expertise of James’ sister. All she needed to do was change her wound dressing every day.
It was Carl who went personally to pick her up, and she seemed moody after she climbed into the
“Alison is investigating your accident.” Carl knew the reason she was unhappy and explained on Alison’s behalf, “Just a couple of days ago, she submitted all the evidence to the police, and once
the prosecutors have reviewed it, it will be transferred to the court for prosecution.”
“Did she find out who did it?” Hannah’s mulish silence was immediately replaced with vigilance.
