Alison’s Identity of Romance ( Brayden Cornell ) Chapter 27

Chapter 27 Let Aly Choose Someone She Likes

“That time when I was pushed down the staircase during elementary school, you were called to the school by the principal,” Hannah went on, trying to remind him as she retold the story convincingly. “You even went to check the surveillance cameras with the police at that time…”

The more she spoke, the more serious she became, and Carl knew that if he went on feigning ignorance, they had higher chances of exposure. Hence, he went along with her as though he had just recalled everything. “You mean Alison?”

“Yes, exactly!” Hannah exclaimed, excited.

“Are you Alison?” Carl asked, verifying her identity.

Alison didn’t expect that they would be such fantastic actors and replied calmly, “Yeah.”

“Are you really Aly?” Hannah was practically giddy with excitement, but she managed to keep their cover the entire time. “I’m Hannah, the short-haired little girl that you saved from the pond. Do you still remember?”

“Yes, I do,” Alison said, nodding.

How could she forget that incident? Hannah had sneaked to the pond to catch fish while she was busy with something else and slipped into the water. When she fished her out of the pond, she was still clutching the fish tightly in her hands.

Brayden studied her closely as he questioned, “Why didn’t you mention before that you’re related to the Lambert Family?”

“Do you tell tales from ten years ago every day?” she snapped, rendering him speechless.

Hannah immediately greeted Alison warmly, “Aly, come sit here with me!”

Alison went over, and they started chatting about the past, including when Alison beat up the kids that bullied her and helped her cover up when she stole a snack.

“Oh, how you’ve changed over the past ten years! I wouldn’t have recognized you if I didn’t find you familiar.” Throughout their conversation, Hannah didn’t release Alison’s hand, and her eyes were filled with nostalgia for the past.

Brayden reckoned that this whole thing was true upon seeing Hannah acting in such a way.

Hannah loved her sister deeply, and now that she had a justifiable reason to attack, she could finally meet Brayden’s eyes boldly. “Mr. Cornell, may I ask why you’re divorcing Aly?”

“Inreconcilable differences,” he said simply.

“Is that true?” Hannah asked Alison.

Alison merely nodded. “Yeah.”

Hannah’s eyes darted around, thinking, Aly has got to be lying! “It’s not a bad thing to be divorced.” With no fear of the consequences of her actions, she boldly declared, “I know many outstanding men, and I’ll introduce them to you once you’re divorced. They know that you’ve protected me in the past, so they’re all very curious about you.”

“Okay,” Alison agreed, knowing that she was saying this just because.

Yet, Brayden’s brows knitted together at their conversation. Clearly, he wasn’t happy with Hannah’s suggestion and started to have a sense of enmity toward her. “Do you like playing matchmaker, Miss Lambert?”

“Not really.” Hannah’s voice was still filled with confidence. “I only like playing matchmaker for Aly. She’s such an amazing person and deserves the best.”

“You’re not her. So, how do you know what kind of man is suitable for her?”

“That’s alright. I’ll ask them all out and let her pick the person she likes.”

Brayden could no longer continue with the conversation. Even before they were divorced, Hannah was already planning to introduce new men to Alison right in front of him. Anyone with some manners and common sense wouldn’t do something like this.

“You can bring up this matter again once the divorce is finalized,” he grumbled in a cold and disgruntled voice. “Regarding the collaboration, I’ll send someone to speak with you personally at Lambert International, Mr. Lambert. We’ll take our leave now and not disrupt Miss Lambert’s rest.”

“Sure.” Carl rose to his feet in order to send his guests on their way.

In this conversation, both parties were aware that it wasn’t a business talk, but none said it out. loud. In addition, they also knew that Brayden’s words were just excuses in order to conclude their meeting today. As long as there was no signed agreement in black and white, no mere words could be taken as a promise in the business world.

After Hannah sent off Brayden and the others, she took out her cell phone and sent a few texts to Alison.

‘Aly, did you marry Brayden because of his looks? He doesn’t seem to treat you all that well.

‘He’s not fit to be my brother-in-law.”

‘I’m serious!’

She managed to send several texts to Alison within a minute. Setting everything aside, she couldn’t see any love in Brayden’s eyes when he looked at Alison, and neither was there any adoration. If Alison hadn’t kept her identity from him, she would even consider that he only married Alison because of her wealth!

On the other side, Alison felt the vibration from her cell phone. She knew right then that it was Hannah bombarding her with multiple texts. Still, she didn’t check them immediately because Brayden was still around.

“Are you good at fighting?” Brayden asked, stopping in front of the car and peering down at her.

To Alison, it was a challenge to speak nicely with him, “It’s not a problem for me to beat you up.”

Her answer rendered both Brayden and Conner mute, but the former still felt frustration burning in his chest. “Did you think that you now possess a strong backing after Hannah said that she’s going to introduce wealthy men to you?”

“That’s right,” she answered, deliberately making him mad.

Indeed, he fell for it and couldn’t hold back his tongue the instant he lost his temper. As per usual, he started blurting things he would later regret, “Do you think that those rich men will fall for you? You might be a bodyguard that Miss Lambert hired, but that merely makes you an ex- employee of their family. So, you should stop building castles in the air. Even if those wealthy men befriended you, it’s all for the sake of the Lambert Family.”

Every word he said was harsh, but he knew better than anyone how this circle was. Once Alison stepped into it, he reckoned that she would become the victim and lose everything.

“After being in a dream with you, I would like to have another dream again.” Alas, she was unaffected by his words as she added. “I’ll just have to do it a few more times. Maybe my net worth will exceed yours after a few marriages.”

“You think those people will be interested in you like me?” he demanded coldly.

She nodded. “That’s not entirely impossible.”

“You should know your place.” His voice turned colder and deeper with every word. Then, he even added, “I’m only interested in you because you look a little like Julia.”

This time, Alison had nothing to retort. Brayden vented the last of his pent-up frustration in his chest, saying, “Without this face, I won’t take another look at you at all.”

“Say that again.” Although she knew that was the truth, hearing it from his lips was a different matter entirely, and she was a person who didn’t like to be the substitute for another.

“I married you and cared about you only because you look a little like Julia-”

“Boss!” Conner cried out in shock.

Alison swung her fist without hesitation, punching Brayden in the face. If it weren’t because of her mind warning her that she would break his nose if she used her full strength, she wouldn’t have held back at all.

“Did you think that I would feel inferior and sad after you said that? That I have to give my thanks to Julia for all that I have today?” she questioned sharply while checking her nails after effortlessly throwing the punch.

Brayden clutched his nose, which was throbbing painfully. For a moment there, he saw stars and didn’t know what just hit him.

Book Synopsis:

Chapter 1 She's Back, So Let's Divorce

At night in Emperor Gardens, Riverton. In the spacious and bright living room, two people sat facing each other. Between them was a divorce agreement. The man wore a well-ironed suit, and he had beautiful features but a cold demeanor. The aura he exuded was so oppressive that the atmosphere around them felt tense. His cold gaze landed on the woman who was silently sitting opposite him, and his orbs were as dark as the night sky outside. "Let's get a divorce on Monday," Brayden Cornell uttered a**ertively in a cold and baritone voice. "Apart from the compensation in the divorce agreement, you can ask for anything else you need from me." "Why so sudden?" Alison Lambert spoke in such a hushed voice he nearly couldn't catch her. "Julia is back," he answered curtly. Of course, she knew who Julia was. After a short moment of silence, she replied, "Sure." Brayden was slightly taken aback as if he didn't expect her to agree to it so willingly. Flipping open the divorce agreement and skimming through the clauses, she was reminded of how she and Brayden met. Two years ago, they met at Nightingale Club. She visited the bar full of worries and bumped into Brayden, who was just dumped by his girlfriend. After taking two shots of drinks, they engaged in a pleasant conversation as if they'd been friends for years. There was no one-night stand, and they returned to their respective homes after enjoying each other's company. She saw him again three days later after that night, and when he brought his a**istant along to propose marriage to her, she agreed readily.
Alison's Identity of Romance

Review by Alison's:

4.5 out of 5

This story gets a 4.5 out of 5.
This book was fantastic! I really enjoy fantasy stories… greek mythology, Billionaire, Romance vampires, I love it all… and this book had it all and then some.  Anything fantasy or mythological, was in this book.  I really enjoyed how Cornell was able to bring them all together in a way that was seamless and natural (or at least as natural as made-up things can be).  What I mean is that when I learned these mythological characters were all in it I thought it was a recipe for disaster, but actually it works brilliantly. The storyline was incredibly interesting and well thought out.  I imagine this story required an awful lot of planning and research.  As I was reading it I thought to myself that this must have taken some time to put together.  When a lot of planning and research is involved there are usually plot-holes (contradictions/missing information), but not in this case, I saw no errors in the complex plot.
The characters were fantastic.  They were relatable and the overall story itself was an incredibly interesting read.  The ONLY reason I am not giving this story a full 5 out of 5 is because of the ‘ease of reading’ factor.  I am an avid reader, I love reading, but even I found this story a little difficult to keep up with. It required my full attention and if I left it more than a day between reading chapters, I was lost. I had to go back in the book and re-read parts just to ‘get my bearings’.  This coupled with the volume of characters made the story a little difficult to read, BUT it was well worth reading. If you are a Billionaire, lover, you HAVE TO read this book! I guarantee, you will love it. Perfect for adults (16+ due to the content) who enjoy:
  • Billionaire
  • Mythology: Greek mythology and mythological characters (Billionaire, Love, Romance, vampires)
  • Learning from reading
  • Getting lost in a complex storyline.
