Chapter 21 Brayden’s Here
Alison opened that email to read, ‘Can you investigate this person for me? Alison Lawrence. Female. Imperian. This is her photo. You can name your price as long as you can find everything
She was stunned speechless by the email. So, she instinctively glanced at the sender’s email to find out that it was an address she had contacted quite a lot a few years ago.
Back then, she felt that this person was knowledgeable and that they saw eye to eye on many things. So, they usually helped each other out but gradually lost contact when things died down.
But… Why was he investigating her?
Her fingers moved quickly across the phone screen and replied, ‘Has she offended you in some way?’
On the other side, Brayden received her email instantly. At first, he was prepared not to receive anything as it had been years since their last conversation. So, there was a high possibility that, email wasn’t in use anymore. To his surprise, she replied quickly.
As he read the email, he leaned against his seat and typed away on the keyboard in reply, ‘No. I’m helping a friend. I’m sorry, but I can’t give you any more information other than that. Can you do it?’
Alison read his reply and was deep in thought when she suddenly thought of something.
She opened the picture Brayden attached to the email to find that the picture’s background seemed to be the villa’s living room in Emperor Gardens.
So, she asked, ‘Is your friend Brayden Cornell?’
Alison rarely did a background check on anyone, including the person she was in contact with, as her skills were mainly used to collect evidence.
However, the situation didn’t look good now. Is Brayden investigating me, or is someone by his side doing this?
“Aly?” James waved his hands before her face. “Aly!”
Alison diverted her gaze from the phone screen and looked up at him impa**ively. “What?”
“What are you thinking about?” James stopped at a traffic light and couldn’t hold back his curiosity. “You’ve been staring at the screen for some time.”
“Nothing.” She locked her phone screen and kept her phone in her pocket, deciding to think about the email later.
“I forgot to tell you. My sister messaged me before you got down the plane saying that Anna’s

operation went well and has been transferred to the ward now.” He saw the lights turn green and drove the car forward as he told her, “She said to tell you that there’s nothing to worry about.”
Alison replied. “Okay.”
Although she seemed nonchalant on the surface, she was still worried. Anna was treated like a princess growing up. If she fell and got a scratch, she would immediately run to Alison and cry
Now, her sister was suffering a broken bone and a bleeding head, and it was hard to imagine the pain she was going through.
It was already 6.00PM when James arrived at the hospital with Alison. After he informed her which ward Anna was in, he went to park the car.
Alison strode into the third inpatient department at level six. As she neared Anna’s ward, her heart started pounding against her ribs. By the time she was at the door, her palms began to sweat
due to worry.
eyes shut She looked through the windows of the ward to see an adorable girl on the bed with her as if she was asleep. Meanwhile, Carl was sitting beside her, looking forlorn. He was already over 50 years old, but he still looked to be around 30 or 40.
Carl seemed to have sensed her gaze as he instinctively looked up and met Alison’s eyes through the window.
At that moment, their hearts skipped a beat, and Carl’s eyes were glued to her. He didn’t want to move his gaze away. Aria…
Alison couldn’t identify what she was feeling and opened the door after taking a deep breath. She still wore the casual black suit with a white T-shirt she had on when applying for the divorce that made her look distant.
Then, she closed the ward door.
Carl sniffled as longing overwhelmed him. “Aria.”
“How’s Anna?” Alison didn’t greet him. Instead, she approached Anna, her gaze never leaving the person who was sleeping peacefully on the bed.
“She’s okay.” He forced the emotions down and answered, “The wounds were all treated. She’ll have to go for a checkup after she recovers to check for any side effects.”
Alison made a sound of agreement, and the ward fell into silence once more.
Carl’s eyes landed on her once more. He couldn’t bear to take his eyes off her. She’s gotten thinner.
“You…” He was hesitant.
“I’ll stay in the hospital.” She picked up where he left off coldly. “You should head home.”

He didn’t reply but was dying to ask how she was doing these past two years. Alas, he was well aware that she wouldn’t tell him anything.
Still, his curiosity got the better of him as he asked, “You and Brayden…”
“In the midst of a divorce.” Alison sat down, her eyes still on Anna.
Carl knew she didn’t want to talk to him. So, after some thought, he stuffed all the longing he felt for her into a ball and merely expressed his concerns for her before leaving the ward.
When he exited, he bumped into James.
“Aria probably didn’t eat on her way here.” Carl was familiar with James and glanced into the ward before adding, “Remind her to eat something later.”
“Sure,” James answered.
He knew Alison’s relationship with Carl was strained, so he didn’t say anything else.
After Carl left, James entered the ward and asked teasingly, “Aly, guess whom I saw in the car park?”
However, she only shot him a look as if to say if he were going to be noisy, she would kick him
“That person on your marriage certificate,” he whispered.
Alison tilted her head in confusion.
She stared at him while inwardly questioning what sort of twisted prank fate was playing on her. “Are you sure you saw it right?”
“Of course. It was the company car from Cornell Corporation’s branch here in Imperia that sent him here.” James was very detailed and started gossiping, “Do you think it’s because he knows. you’re here? So, he deliberately came to visit Anna?”
Alison stayed silent and recalled her journey here with Brayden. She was sure she didn’t leak her location throughout her journey prior to leaving him to the dust.
“Why not?” James muttered softly for fear of disturbing Anna’s rest.
Alison replied directly, “He doesn’t know I’m here, nor does he know I’m Anna’s sister.”
James was puzzled. “Huh?”
This was the first time he felt that he lacked comprehension skills. “What do you mean?”
“I didn’t tell him my identity.” Alison told him calmly.
“Even so, it doesn’t mean he can’t find out.” James had a pretty good idea about Brayden’s skills. “He has a wide network in Riverton and Imperia. Many people would be at his beck and call just because of his name.”
Nonetheless, Alison’s gaze never once wavered as she kept staring at him steadily.
Eventually, James’ eyes widened, seemingly realizing something. “You hid your information?!”
