Chapter 18 Is Mr. Blake Really Boss’ Brother?
“Start the car,” Brayden ordered with a commanding aura.
Commer started the engine without another word and drove out of the villa.
Still, his intuition was telling him that Brayden was sure to regret it if he actually went through. with the divorce.
Most importantly, he felt that there was more than meets the eye when it came to Alison. If she were truly an ordinary person, he would have been able to find out where she studied or worked. Then, he would have been able to learn more about her based on that information.
However, he only found three words last night-Alison Lambert (Female) and nothing else.
It was utterly preposterous.
“Mrs. Cornell, why don’t you give this a bit more thought?” Conner asked once more while driving, “Boss is good-looking and rich. It’s such a pity to divorce him.”
Even though he was a little afraid of Brayden, he decided to muster up some of his admittedly limited levels of courage to speak up on certain things, such as their marriage and now the divorce between this ridiculous couple.
Alas, Alison didn’t bother sugarcoating her words as she retorted, “He’s still a jerk no matter how good-looking or rich he is.”
Brayden and Conner were rendered utterly speechless at her reply.
“Boss, are you really not going to reconsider?” Conner could only change his target.
Unfortunately, his efforts were in vain, as he was only rewarded with Brayden’s crushing gaze, but Conner forged on bravely. “Miss Shaw is the past. Mrs. Cornell is your future, It’s not a smart move to disregard your future for the past.”
“Focus on driving.” Brayden was clearly displeased.
Conner kept his eyes on the road and replied nonchalantly, “Well, don’t make me help you chase Mrs. Cornell back after this.”
An icy aura exuded from Brayden as he wondered whether he should double Conner’s workload. It was obvious that the man had a lot of time with his hands, considering how he actually harbored opinions regarding his personal life.
The car continued to move, and they arrived at the city hall at 8.50AM.
Conner had arranged for everything, so the couple’s attendance was more or less just to make things official. He could only drag himself forward while leading Brayden and Alison to the divorce department.
Chapter 18 Is Mr. Blake …
peans
As Brayden and Alison filled in the forms, Conner pushed his golden-framed glasses before discretely sending a text on his phone, ‘Mr. Blake, Boss is divorcing Mrs. Cornell.
Blake replied with a question mark before asking, ‘Are you sure? Isn’t she the apple of Brayden’s eye?
Conner simply replied, ‘Miss Shaw has returned.
Then, Blake asked sharply, ‘So, he’s dumping his wife for his first love?’
Conner pondered for a moment before deciding to answer honestly, ‘Yes.
Blake texted. ‘Unbelievable!”
Conner was at a loss for what to say and sent him three dots.
Then, Blake replied, ‘Leave him be. Brayden’s not been through any significant failures since. young, except for losing his first love. Alison will teach him a lesson this time.
Conner quietly locked his phone screen and wondered why he thought Blake would help persuade Brayden to think twice.
Just as he was about to check on the application’s progress, Blake called him. So, he walked to the side before answering the phone in a low voice, “Yes, Mr. Blake.”
“I forgot to ask. How are they dividing their assets for the divorce?” A carefree and lazy voice came through.
Conner took a second before answering, “Excluding their investments, everything else is split evenly, like the salary, bonuses on top of the most expensive supercar, and a villa in the suburbs.”
“That’s good,” he replied and promptly hung up.
Conner was left bewildered. That’s good? Is Mr. Blake really Boss’ brother?
On the other hand, Alison and Brayden had just completed the process for the divorce. Still, they were promptly informed that there was a 30-day cooling-off period. So, if they still wanted to go through with the divorce after 30 days, they would have to come to collect the certificate together. If either party was unwilling to proceed with the divorce, they could also choose to withdraw the application within those 30 days.
After they received the necessary clarifications about the process from the official in charge of their divorce, they both exited city hall with no hiccups.
Conner sent them home and was tempted to say more but kept his mouth shut in the end. He only decided to keep mum on the matter as this yet-to-be-divorced couple had a month-long cooling-off period. So, there was still time.
Yet, he realized that the situation was far more dire than he had imagined when they arrived at the villa. He finally understood that Alison truly wanted a divorce.
Even Brayden was momentarily perplexed when he saw the vehicle from a moving company parked before the gate.
“Mrs. Cornell.” Conner noticed the confusion on Brayden’s face and asked on his behalf, “Did you call the moving company?”
“Yes.” Alison nodded and swiftly got down the car.
She quickly went to talk to the moving company to request their patience as she needed some time to pack her things.
Even though she had lived there for one year, she didn’t possess many things of her own.
Conner noticed the atmosphere in the car gradually turning somber and turned his head to ask carefully. “Boss, aren’t you going to stop her?”
“Stop what?” Brayden retorted coldly.
“If Mrs. Cornell moves out, this divorce is set.” Conner tried to persuade him since he still wished the best for his boss. “Considering her personality, she wouldn’t look back once it’s over.”
“Do you have nothing better to do?” Brayden was getting more irritated by his words.
Finally, he moved his gaze slightly to look out the window and landed on that silhouette that was speaking to the moving company. His heart felt heavier when he saw that she didn’t seem the least bit affected by their separation.
The next moment, he opened the car door and strode out.
“Please wait for a moment. I’ll be done in half an hour,” Alison explained apologetically, as she * didn’t expect them to come so early.
“Sure.” Fortunately, the person from the moving company was agreeable to her suggestion.
Once she was done soothing ruffled feathers, she walked into the house and bumped into Brayden.
“You’re moving out?” Brayden stared at her.
“Yes.
“Why?”
Alison was a little taken aback. “What do you mean why?”
“We still have a month before the divorce. You can still stay here for this month,” Brayden. clarified with his usual deep tone. “You don’t need to move out so soon.”
“It’s alright.” She rejected him, “I’ve already found a house. It’s better to move out now since we’re going our separate ways anyway.”
He stopped the words from tumbling out of his mouth as he saw the resolution in her eyes.
When Alison noticed that he wasn’t going to say anything, she didn’t bother continuing the conversation. Frankly, she couldn’t stand to be there another second.
Half an hour passed like the wind as Alison efficiently packed her belongings into two pieces of luggage and multiple boxes.
Then, the moving company moved her things into the vehicle.
Conner watched the scene unfold as he stood beside Brayden. He slid his glasses up his nose bridge before commenting, “Boss, Mrs. Cornell is about to leave.”
“I have eyes.”
“She won’t return when she does.”
Brayden didn’t answer.
“Can you really let her go just like that?”
“How is the investigation going regarding Julia’s incident?” Brayden asked suddenly, and that heavy feeling in his heart slowly dissipated once they changed the topic. “Why did that arrested suspect hire a driver to crash into her? What did the police say?”
Now, it was Conner’s turn to be quiet.
However, Brayden continued, “You should focus on your work.”
“Boss.”
“Speak.”
“I’ve got a question,” Conner spoke up after pondering on it.
Brayden looked at him and urged him with his gaze.
After a moment of silence, Conner cautiously parted his lips and asked, “Do you really like Miss
Shaw?”
